The NFBA has expanded its coverage area into Wakulla County, Florida. The original network design is being updated to improve resiliency and capacity. The new microwave network design creates a protected ring structure with over 90 points of presence. This will double network capacity and allow for easier future expansion while reducing costs through hardened components.

NFBA Proposed Coverage Area
*Wakulla County has joined the NFBA. The coverage area has expanded into another underserved Florida county.
NFBA Original Network Design
NFBA Original Network Design
The original design had 51 Points-of-Presence locations for Last Mile Providers The design met the minimum requirements of the Grant The original microwave elements had a less resilient design, whilst the fiber elements had duplicate resiliency in its design The original design had unprotected spurs

NFBA Microwave Network Design Change
The new design has over 90 Points-of-Presence locations for Anchor Institutions and Last Mile Providers, facilitating more revenue opportunities and expanding the broadband accessibility throughout the region. More towers means closer links, enhancing the capacity of each 11 GHz link to 200 megabits per second full duplex, and 150 megabits per second on 6 GHz rings. The new microwave design is a protected ring design doubling capacity from any point-of-presence to 400 megabits for 11Ghz sites and 300 megabits for 6Ghz sites. Closer links also make expanding the capacity of the network possible by adding an additional radio to the existing dish. New microwave design using hardened components reduces capital and operational costs.
