Diversity Conference Assignment

Block:

STEP 3: Mind Map

Now that you have the research, I want you to reflect on the first day of our study
related to this chapter. We spent an entire class discussing the topic of "diversity,"
which is the basis of our study of the Indian subcontinent. You also did some overview
research of "India" through Google Images as well. With that background in mind, I would
like you to create a detailed, well-organized mind map that demonstrates the diversity
of the state or union territory that you have chosen.

What is a graphic organizer?

A graphic organizer is basically an effective way of summarizing information. Think venn
diagram, information table, web diagram, etc.
THE CRITICAL QUESTION (you are answering this through the mind map):

What makes your state or union territory "diverse"?

You may wish to consider the following points in your mind map.
1. A definition of diversity (in your own words do NOT copy and paste from
anywhere).
2. The composition of the population do they all come from the same group? For
instance, think about all of the people who are now living in BC, but actually came
here from a different province.
3. Religious composition are there primarily Hindus, Muslims, Christians, etc. Or, is
there a general mix of people from different faiths.
4. Relationships (through organizations, government policies, traditions or cultures
that have been adopted, etc.) with other states and/or union territories.
5. The things that are unique to your state or union territory language, culture,
history, tourism, etc.
Marking Criteria:
You will be doing a self-assessment using the rubric on the back side this sheet of paper.
In the "comments" box, make sure to tell me what mark you deserve out of 4 points, and
WHY. Use a highlighter to indicate these points on the rubric as well.

Task
Completion:
The question

Peer
Assessment
- Must be done
using a
highlighting
technique
which is visible.
- Students must
hand in the
draft copy with
others editing
along with their
good copies.

Comments:

Minimally Meeting

Not Meeting

The question has

been answered
well. A thought
process is
somewhat
noticeable from the
details provided.

The question has

been answered,
although not
clearly. Details are
insufficient in
hinting at thought
process.

The question has

vaguely been
answered or not
answered at all.
There are no
details provided.

The
composition/mind
-map is well
written and
organized. It is
easy to follow and
has a natural,
coherent flow.
There are few, if
any mechanical
errors.

The
composition/mindmap is well written,
and generally flows.
There are some
mechanical errors,
which are not a
great distraction in
the overall
presentation.

The
composition/mindmap is written,
although with a
clear lack of effort.
There are many
mechanical errors,
which are
distracting and take
away from the
coherence of the
composition.

The
composition/mindmap is poorly
written or
incomplete. None
or very little editing
has been done, and
therefore, there is a
lack of focus and
clarity in the
composition.

Students made a
genuine effort to
thoroughly read
anothers work.
This is evident
through insightful
suggestions,
comments, and/or
advice. Students
have highlighted
both the positive
aspects and things
that can be
improved upon.

Students have made

a genuine effort to
read anothers
work. The
suggestions,
comments, and/or
advice seems
genuine, but not as
in-depth as a Fully
Meeting.

Students have
edited anothers
work. However,
they have provided
little comments,
and/or suggestions.
The lack of effort
suggests a lack of
interest.

Students have
barely, or not made
edited anothers
work. They have
provided no
comments,
suggestions, and/or
advice
