Lesson Learning Goals and Objectives

Instructional Strategies:
Before the Lesson
Target Skills: Reviewing 10's and 1's
Procedures:
1. State the learning goal to the students. "Today we are going to focus on adding tens and
ones. We are going to review how to regroup 10 ones into one group of 10 when we are
adding."

2. Have students take out their individual dry erase boards and pens.
3. Have students write numbers with only 10's; only 1's; and 10's and 1's.
4. Have students complete an addition problem where no regrouping is needed.
5. Then, review regrouping. Ask how many one's are needed to make a group of ten.
6. Go through a few practice problems where students have to circle the group of 10 ones to
regroup.
7. Check the students dry erase boards for their answers, and have students answer problems
aloud.
During the Lesson
Procedures:
1. Model how to do the activity that the students are about to work on in pairs.
2. Show the student the worksheet they will be working on.
3. Explain to the students what they are going to do. Then do a few problems together. Only do
one or two with regrouping. Then break students into pairs.
4. Example: Show a problem from the worksheet: 29 + 7. Show how one student can find 29
with the blocks and one can find seven. Then together count ten 1's and trade it in for one
10. Then, rewrite the problem on the worksheet drawing 10's and 1's and circling the group
of 10 ones.
5. Hand out 1's and 10's blocks and plates for sorting to pairs of students. Hand out a
worksheet for each student.
6. Pair students up.
7. Walk around the room to monitor how students are working together.
8. When a group finishes, give them the math handout to work on.
9. When students are finished with their worksheets, go over the answers aloud, having
students share how they found their answers.
After the Lesson
Procedures:
1. Check for understanding by handing out an exit ticket with one addition problem that uses
adding 10s and 1s and one problem that uses regrouping.
2. Restate the learning goal to the students. "Today reviewed how to regroup 10 ones into one
group of 10 when we are adding."

Accommodations or Modifications needed for students with disabilities.

For the student with learning disabilities, I will create a worksheet he can work on, where he can
practice drawing 1's or a 10 to show individual numbers up to the number 10. He can practice
with the blocks to make the numbers. He can practice drawing the number by drawing the
circles for ones or the line for ten.
Differentiation
I will differentiate by offering help to students who may need help in solving the problem as they
complete their partner work. I will also pair struggling students with students who can help them.
Assessment of Goals and Objectives
This lesson will be assessed based on how the students answer verbally, complete their
worksheets and explain their answers and by reviewing the students' exit tickets.
How will you assess student learning in each phase? How will you provide feedback to
students?
I will assess students during the opening of the lesson when they complete practice problems
using their individual dry erase boards. I will assess student during the middle of the lesson by
going around the room and looking at their work with their partners. I will assess the students as
students give their responses aloud as we go over the answers to the activity. I will assess the
activity by providing an exit ticket at the end of the activity.
