Planning is the process of outlining the activities that are necessary to achieve
the goals of the organization. The purpose of planning is simple, to ensure that
the organization is both effective and efficient in its activities. Planning also help
to determine opportunity, avoid risk, utilize resource, achieve goals and reduce
overlapping.
Jakel Company is one of the biggest fabrics businesses in Malaysia. Jakel is wellknown as they provide quality, updated, exclusive and affordable fabrics and
materials. Jakel Company has more than 50 franchaises all over Malaysia.
In Jakel Company, they are using both planning approach, which is Top-Down
Planning and Bottom-Up Planning. Top-Down Planning includes board director,
top managers and mmanagers while Bottom-Up Planning involves people colsest
to the operating system, such as employees, supervisors and customers. In Jakel,
when they want to plan something new such as the pattern of upcoming fabrics,
they took the suggestion from Jakel HQ and of course, some suggestion from the
customers wants. All new designs and pattern of fabrics and materials are most
updated from HQ.
They have production, research and development, financial, human resource
management, marketing and operation departments. For production department
they are using sophisticated machine to produce high quality fabrics and save
their production cost since there is less workers. In research and development
department, Jakel is done researching about the type of materials, where it came
from and so on. This department is quite important since it can determine the
quality scale of the fabrics. Furthermore, for financial department, they have the
plan in managing the budget process, monthly utility cost, stock cost and
monthly salary for workers. For marketing planning, Jakel provides online and
offline business. Customers can buy online or just walk in the store. Jakel
organizes their promotion mostly during school holidays. In operational planning,
Jakel provides friendly, strict yet caring supervisors to monitor all workers in
every outlet.
Jakel is using standing plans, single use plans and individual plans. Jakel has to
do planning for facing the future problems or obstacles. In standing plans, they
have the backup plan in facility. There is a generator for electricity in order to be
a backup when the outlet is out of current. For the stock backup plans, Jakel
usually have some stock materials in store and for Eid Mubarak, they will
produced ready-made kurung in order to handle the less fabrics stock.
Moreover, they do having policies under KPDNK, Customs and Labour
Organizations. For single use plans, Jakel do providing programs for their workers
in order to polish them to be professional not only in cutting the fabrics, but in
greeting and serving the customers with good manners. For example, there are
division of workers to treat different level of customers, between royal, VIP and
normal customers. The workers who had to serve the royal customers should
have protocols in serving them. Jakel also send their workers to HQ in Kuala
Lumpur for skills improvisation. For individual plans, they used management by
objectives (MBO). The operation managers and supervisors are updated daily the
workers attendance. The supervisors are very caring and love to ask the
employees about their family or any problems that their faced. The work
environment is very friendly and less stress.
They have no barrier since all their operations and management are under wellplanned. Jakel pushed their employees to achieve their goals. Thus, Jakel is
having an effective planning in their organization.
