Course Description:
Computer Applications is a foundational course intended to teach students the computing
fundamentals
and concepts involved in the use of common software applications. Upon completion of this
course,
students will gain basic proficiency in word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and
presentations. In
addition, students will have engaged in key critical thinking skills and will have practiced ethical
and
appropriate behavior required for the responsible use of technology.
Course Vision
By the end of this course, students will be able to effectively and appropriately use technology in
a variety of settings.
Course SMART Goal
Students will demonstrate a minimum typing proficiency of 35 wpm by the end of first semester.
What will you need to be SUCCESSFUL in this Class?
A Positive Attitude, Regular Attendance, and Consistent Effort will lead to success in this
class.
Make-up Work
If you are absent, you will have the same amount of days you missed to make up work. This is
for excused absences only.
If you are failing, appropriate interventions will be provided including after school tutoring.
Daily Expectations
Students are to be in their seats and working on the warm-up exercise when the tardy bell
sounds. Assigned work should be turned in daily at the end of class. Students should take proper
care of the equipment. Any deliberate misuse of the equipment will result in disciplinary action.
Students should obey classroom and school rules at all times

Course Outline:
1. Students will review correct fingering, typing technique, editing procedures, and proofreading
skills.
2. Students will learn the various features of Microsoft Word.
3. Students will learn to format letters, memos, reports, and tables.
4. Students will learn to create presentations using Power Point.
5. Students will learn to create publications using Publisher.
6. Students will learn to create spreadsheets using Excel.
7. Students will apply what they learn during the semester with a final activity.

1. Clean up after yourself.


2. NO FOOD or BEVERAGES in the computer lab.
3. DO NOT PRINT without permission.
4. Do not install or download any software or
modify or delete any system files on any lab
computers.
5. CD-ROMs and other multimedia equipment are
for school work only. Do not use them for
playing music or other recreational activities.
6. Respect the equipment. Dont damage, remove,
or disconnect any labels, parts, cables, or
equipment.
7. Do not read or modify other users' files.
8. If you leave the lab, do not leave your personal
belongings unattended. We are not responsible
