Unit Title: Algebra I Name: Quynhnhu Cao Content Area: Algebra 1P Grade Level:9 Grade Level CA Content Standard(s) /common Core Standard(s)
Basic content and concepts related to Algebra I including Number and Quantity, Algebra, Functions, and Statistics and
Probability. Algebra strengthens and expands your thinking in logic, patterns, solving problems, inductive and deductive
reasoning.
Modern technology is used to learn and apply basic Algebra concepts. Technology includes the use of different internet websites.
Unit Goals and Objectives:
Students will identity the standards from the conceptual categories of Number of Quantity and Algebra Functions.
Students will learn how to deepen understanding of linear and exponential relationships, contrast linear and exponential
relationships with each other and engage in methods for analyzing, solving, and using quadratic functions.
Students will extend the laws of exponents to square and cube roots, and apply linear models to data that exhibit a linear trend.
Unit Summary:
In my opinion, students need to know the general basis of algebra. Algebra is a first in a series of higher-level math classes that
students need to succeed in college and their life. I hope to show you how basic algebra concepts are very applicable through
hands-on fieldwork with this unit plan. I will also be giving you some tutorials to use it such as HotMath and The World of Math.
These tutorials should make the hands-on portion of this unit plan much less tedious for all of you.
Assessment Plan:
Entry-Level:
Survey/Quiz Online survey to determine
if there is adequate knowledge from
previous lectures to understand current
unit.
Formative:
Guided Notes Questions At points during
lecture, ask questions from PowerPoint
to a few students individually to see if
they contradict and correct each other.
Summative
Group Project Students will make a
group of three and in 30 minutes
discuss/answer questions contained in
Guided Notes.
Lesson 1
Student Learning
Objective:
Understand
exponents and order
of operations.
Acceptable Evidence:
The successful
completion of seven
problems in the
lecture as well as the
quiz and exam.
Instructional
Strategies:
Communication
Collection
Collaboration
Presentation
Organization
Interaction
Lesson Activities:
Students follow along with lecture and a guided noted
handout.
Students attempt problems in lecture with classmates
and workspace provided on notes.
Students will take a lesson quiz based on the lecture.
Students will make a group of three to discuss/answer
questions contained in the guided notes in 30 minutes.
Acceptable Evidence:
The successful
completion of the
webercise sheet will
demonstrate
collection skills and
how to read for
information carefully.
Instructional
Strategies:
Communication
Collection
Collaboration
Presentation
Organization
Interaction
Lesson Activities:
Students will search for definitions of key terms.
Students will interact with exponents, order of operations,
and other topics related to Algebra 1 class.
Students will interact with video, guided practice, and
worksheets to practice and improve their Algebra 1 skills for
free.
Acceptable Evidence:
The steps are
correctly placed,
meaning the students
understand the
concepts of exponents
and order of
operations.
Instructional
Strategies:
Communication
Collection
Collaboration
Presentation
Organization
Interaction
Lesson Activities:
Students will fill in the blanks with given steps as well as add
on some additional ones which they must look up in the
lecture and textbooks.
Lesson 2
Student Learning
Objective:
Understand the some
of the key terms,
concepts, and
examples used in
Algebra 1
Lesson 3
Student Learning
Objective:
Understand the
sequence of events
leading up to
determining solving
exponents and order
of operations
problems.
