    Marking Symbols for copy checking


    Symbol

    Description
    Spelling mistake
    An S will be put through the incorrectly spelt word and the correction
    will be written in the margin. Related errors of the same spelling in the
    same piece of work will be underlined.

    Punctuation/Capital letter Error


    The punctuation error, misuse of a capital letter or absence of a capital
    letter will be circled.
    No Paragraphs
    This symbol is used to show where a new paragraph should begin. An
    explanation may also be put in the margin, e.g. new place, new time, new
    subject etc.

    S

    New Line in Direct Speech


    Start a new line each time there is a New Speaker when writing
    dialogue.

    Omission
    You have missed a word or a few words out.

    Confusing
    What you have written does not make good sense. Read it through again.
    Especially Good
    Good choice of words, good idea. This part is specially good.
