Sascha Perrins Sr. Director Portland Public Schools 501 N Dixon St. Portland, OR 97227
Dear Mr. Perrins:
I have worked with Portland Public Schools in different roles over the past nine years. It has been my pleasure to serve as a Technology Coordinator, Special Education Teacher, Restorative Justice Coordinator and now a School Climate Coach. Serving in the different positions has allowed me to gain experience and passion working with students in several capacities. The skills Ive gained from my time with Portland Public School has prepared me for the role as Assistant Principal with your district to continue the equity work and to be a source of safety, stability, and inspiration for out students. I have received extensive training in the Courageous Conversations About Race, and am currently working toward an Affiliate Certificate so that I can lead Beyond Diversity trainings. As an African American man who has experienced racism and have worked hard at lessening the negative effects racism has on our students, I have gained skills to share my experiences with future staff and families in a way that will inspire, motivate and engage them to self reflect on their experiences, regardless of their race, and always keep in mind how students of color may be experiencing events in the classroom. I will be an equity leader and guide teachers in the skill of writing culturally responsive lesson plans, to see African American students as an important part of the community of learners and work hard to close the achievement gap. I will provide and share ideas on differentiation and effective research based practices that will positively affect students academically and socially. I look forward to more conversations with you in hope that I am able to share my passion and skillset with a strong community of learners. Sincerely,
