    Hua Mulan is a legendary figure from ancient China who was
    originally described in a poem known as the Ballad of Mulan
    In the poem, Hua Mulan takes her aged fathers place in the army, she
    fought for twelve years and gained high merit, but she refused any
    reward and retired to her hometown instead

    Brief Overview of the film Mulan


    Similar to the poem except her name is Fa Mulan in the
    film, Mulan decides to take her fathers place in the
    army, for he is too old and can not fight
    But Mulan is at the age where she is suppose to meet
    with the Matchmaker and be assigned to her husband
    Mulan rebels against the norms of the Asian Culture and
    decides to protect her family in her own way
