TECHNICAL DATA SHEET TDS148 PUBLISHED DECEMBER 2002
POLYSULPHIDE SEALANT
DESCRIPTION
POLYSULPHIDE SEALANT is a one component, gun applied, synthetic rubber based sealant which cures by absorption of atmospheric moisture to form a permanently flexible seal. It is suitable for use within the construction industry on all joints where above average repeated movement is encountered over a wide temperature range. It provides outstanding resistance to weathering and chemical attack from solvent, alkalis, dilute acids, oils and grease.
POLYSULPHIDE SEALANT cures relatively slowly, therefore applications must be restricted to those where little movement will occur before full cure has been achieved. This will apply particularly where joints could be subject to foot or wheeled traffic and hydrostatic pressure.
USES
* Sealing around door and window frames, particularly those which have been painted with microporous coatings.
* Jointing between external cladding panels..
* Sealing around tiles, mosaics, granite and similar materials.
* Vertical and horizontal expansion joints.
* Re-glazing.
ADVANTAGES
* CONFORMS TO BS5215
* DURABLE Weather resistant and high flexibility ensure low maintenance requirements.
* CHEMICAL RESISTANCE Excellent resistance to a wide range of chemicals.
* SELF COLOURED Range of colours to suit most building applications. TECHNICAL DATA

The joint surfaces must be clean, dry and free from dirt, frost, grease, rust and protective lacquers and coatings. Remove dirt and loose material by rigorous wire brushing Porous surfaces should be primed with Primer P and allowed to dry before application of POLYSULPHIDE SEALANT (Masking tape may be used to keep the joint neat and clean prior to priming). Extrude the sealant firmly into the joint tooling may be carried out with a wetted pointing tool.
Joint size width should not exceed 25mm and depth should not exceed 15mm, or be less than 6mm. To provide optimum joint dimensions a bond breaker or back-up foam should be inserted in the joint, this will also prevent the sealant adhering to the base of the joint. Tools may be cleaned before the sealant cures using white spirit.
STORAGE
POLYSULPHIDE SEALANT should be stored in cool, dry conditions, away from frost or direct sunlight. This product will have a shelf life of 12 months when stored in these conditions in original unopened containers.
HANDLING
POLYSULPHIDE SEALANT is non-hazardous in normal use. If contact occurs with skin remove with soap and water, with eyes irrigate with water and seek medical attention. Do not ingest. For further information please refer to the relevant Safety Data Sheet.
