Description

The walk-around survey is similar to the walk about. For this strategy, students are given a sheet of paper with approximately twelve boxes on it and a topic written at the top of the page. The rows of boxes should be labelled with different aspects of the main topic. The student will use the first box in each row to write down their own thoughts on the subject Students will then walk around the room and find 3 other students to share their thoughts with them for each subtopic. Students should write their classmates names in the box, along with a few brief notes to summarize their classmates ideas. Students will then have their classmates sign in the given box. This will continue until all the boxes are filled, or 15 minutes have elapsed.

Content Application
Arts: Students will be presented with a sheet with 12 boxes on it, arranged in 3 rows of 4. The topic will be Impressionist painters. Each row of boxes will discuss a different painter (Czanne, Monet, and Renoir). There will be several paintings by each of them around the room, clearly labelled. Students will be given 5 minutes to examine the paintings and write down their thoughts. They will then walk around the room and discuss each artist with their classmates. Students should artistically and stylistically analyze the artists. They may also discuss their personal opinions of each.

Verbal-Linguistic: Students must orally explain their thoughts on a given subject to their classmates. They must also summarize their thoughts and the thoughts of their peers in writing. Intrapersonal: Students must reflect on their own experiences, beliefs, and opinions to appropriately respond to each topic. Bodily-Kinesthetic: Students must move around the room and discuss the given topics with their classmates. Interpersonal: Students must talk with their classmates about their opinions of the subject presented. Visual-Spatial: Students will look at various artists and works of art with a critical eye to find differences and to understand the artists use of various artistic elements.

Students will be presented with 3 specific paintings by Impressionist artists. Students should analyze the three paintings and discuss their observations with their classmates. The uses of color, line, light, and subject matter should be touched on. Students should also make note of differences between the 3.

Low

Students will be presented with 3 paintings by the same artist and asked to compare and contrast them. This does not have to be a stylistic analysis. Students should be prepared to discuss difference between the painting and express their personal opinions on each.
