Chem Magic #1: Make Slime Procedure: 1. Pour the glue into the jar. If you have a big bottle of glue, you want 4 oz or 1/2 cup of glue. 2. Fill the empty glue bottle with water and stir it into the glue (or add 1/2 cup of water). 3. If desired, add food coloring. Otherwise, the slime will be an opaque white. 4. In a separate, mix one cup (240 ml) of water into the bowl and add 1 teaspoon (5 ml) of borax powder. 5. Slowly stir the glue mixture into the bowl of borax solution. 6. Place the slime that forms into your hands and knead until it feels dry. (Don't worry about the excess water remaining in the bowl.) 7. The more the slime is played with, the firmer and less sticky it will become. 8. Have fun! 9. Store your slime in a zip-lock bag in the fridge (otherwise it will develop mold). Tips: 1. Use white glue, such as Elmer's brand. 2. Don't eat the slime - it isn't especially toxic, but not good for you either! 3. Slime cleans up pretty easily. Remove dried slime after soaking with water. 4. I've got step-by-step video instructions if you would like to see this project in action plus I made a YouTube video of the slime showing what you will get if you use glue gel rather than white glue. Either type of glue works well. What You Need

Chem Magic #2: Egg-in-Bottle Materials:

peeled hard-boiled egg (or soft-boiled, if a yolk mess interests you) flask or jar with opening slightly smaller than the diameter of the egg paper/lighter or very hot water or very cold liquid

Procedure:

Method 1: Set a piece of paper on fire and drop it into the bottle. Set the egg on top of the bottle (small side pointed downward). When the flame goes out, the egg will get pushed into the bottle. Method 2: Set the egg on the bottle. Run the bottle under very hot tap water. Warmed air will escape around the egg. Set the bottle on the counter. As it cools, the egg will be pushed into the bottle. Method 3: Set the egg on the bottle. Immerse the bottle in a very cold liquid. I have heard of this being done using liquid nitrogen, but that sounds dangerous (could shatter the glass). I recommend trying ice water. The egg is pushed in as the air inside the bottle is chilled.

How to Get the Egg Out You can get the egg out by increasing the pressure inside the bottle so that it is higher than the pressure of the air outside of the bottle. Roll the egg around so it is situated with the small end resting in the mouth of the bottle. Tilt the bottle just enough so you can blow air inside the bottle. Roll the egg over the opening before you take your mouth away. Hold the bottle upside down and watch the egg 'fall' out of the bottle. Alternatively, you can apply negative pressure to the bottle by sucking the air out, but then you risk choking on an egg, so that's not a good plan.

borax powder water 4 ounce (120 ml) glue (e.g., Elmer's white glue) teaspoon bowl jar or measuring cup food coloring (optional) measuring cup

Chem Magic #3: Water into Glass Materials:

Procedure: 1. Pour water into the plate. I colored the water with food coloring to make it easier to see. 2. Bend one of the matches so that you can set it in the water. Secure the match so that it is upright by setting a quarter or other small heavy object on the end of the match stick. 3. Use the second match to light the match that you placed on the plate. 4. Immediately invert a glass over the burning match. 5. The water will flow into the glass and will remain in the glass even after the match has been extinguished. How It Works The heat of the flame imparts energy to the gas trapped under the glass, raising its pressure and pushing against the water. When the flame is extinguished the air cools. Less pressure is exerted against the water, allowing it to flow into the glass.
