We purchased Cool Change in 2011 as a rarely used boat in Bristol condition whose first owner sailed her only in fresh water; there were less than 400 hours on the engine, and hardly any enhancements whatsoever had been added beyond the manufacturers standard equipment. It was our dream to sail her to the South Pacific, so we spent three years in San Francisco making her ready for ocean passage-making, and another three years in Mexico fine-tuning Cool Changes equipment to suit the demands of full-time cruising. In March, 2018, we departed from Puerto Vallarta, Mexico and crossed the Pacific to French Polynesia, where we remained for a season. The next season, in 2019, we departed for Vavau, Tonga, where we left her for a few months for cyclone season in a well-protected cyclone cradle, overseen by boatyard staff. We had hoped to continue our voyage west from Tonga in 2020, but were locked out of the country due to COVID. We finally have been allowed back into Tonga in 2022 and we have been delighted to find Cool Change no worse for wear. Any issues resulting from her layup have been addressed. She is back to her old self, better than ever, with new batteries, a new fuel pump, a new macerator and sanitation system overhaul, a new galley faucet and a freshly painted bottom. The engine, outboard motor for the dinghy, and the water maker were all recommissioned without difficulty. She is ready to cruise again. We are looking forward to finding her next owners to treat her with the love and respect she deserves, and carry on her voyage. See the link above for a complete description.
