Javid David Alvarez Fernandez, better known by his stage name, J. Alvarez, and is a reggaeton artist from San Juan, Puerto Rico.
Born in Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico on 13 December 1983, Alvarez was just twelve years old when he sang “Lo Que Ella Trae" (What She Brings) in front of his classmate and teachers. Alvarez would spend time listening to his influences of reggaeton artists, especially fellow Puerto Rican Tego Calderon, and with the help of his cousin, Alvarez developed a working relationship DJ Nelson. By 2009 Alvarez signed a deal with Flow Music and released his debut album, “El Dueno Del Sistema” later that same year.
A year later, on 7 January 2010 Alvarez released a special edition of “El Deuno Del Sistema.” Alvarez released his second album, “Otro Nivel De Musica” which contained the single “La Pregunta” The album reached No. 36 on the US Top Latin Albums Billboard chart and No. 2 on the Billboard US Latin Rhythm Albums. Just like his first album, Alvarez released a special edition of “Otro Nivel De Musica” on1 May 2012. On top of multiple charting success the album was nominated for Best Urban Music Album at the 2012 Latin Grammy Awards ceremony. By February 2014, he released his third album, “De Camino Pa La’ Cima” which featured collaborations from Mackie, Zion and Daddy Yankee.

He is the kind of singer that has quite a lot of swagger when he takes to the stage singing in his baritone voice, in his native language but having this audience really get behind him as he sails through his set of his own songs, that have secured his name amongst the charts in the Latin music scene. “Sexo Y Vacilon” is one of the best received songs of this set, from the album, “Otro Nivel De Musica” which rocketed to number two in the US Latin Rhythm Albums. Alvarez has much skill with his voice, mastering trills and runs from start to finish.
