Invisible walkways[1] are a type of platform appearing in Super Mario 3D World and Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury, as well as Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker and its ports. They are typically invisible, but they can be seen under specific circumstances. When they are revealed, they are shown to have a blue hexagonal pattern.

History[edit]

Super Mario 3D World / Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury[edit]

In Super Mario 3D World and its campaign in Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury, invisible walkways are the main gimmick of Footlight Lane, though they also appear in one challenge in Mystery House Marathon. Invisible walkways can be made visible in a variety of ways:

  • When a player stands on one, a small amount of the platform is revealed around them.
  • A strong impact from a Ground Pound or a Thwomp slamming down will temporarily reveal a much larger radius around the source.
  • An explosion from a Bullet Bill will reveal a large radius around it.
  • A player using a Super Star will reveal an even larger radius as long as it is active.
  • They will be revealed when directly interacted with via touch controls (Wii U) or the gyroscope (Switch).

In the Bowser's Fury campaign of Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury, invisible walkways return, where the material composes the majority of Trickity Tower. The material also surrounds the perimeter of Lake Lapcat during the battles with Fury Bowser. In this campaign, some new ways to reveal the platforms were added.

  • Projectiles from a Fire Flower or a Boomerang Flower will temporarily reveal the platform upon impact.
  • Bowser Jr. will reveal a small radius around himself much like the player.
  • Fireballs and falling spikes from Fury Bowser will reveal the platforms if they make contact.

Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker[edit]

Invisible walkways return in Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker and its ports, where they are primarily located in Sinister Street Signs. In that level, some invisible walkways appear after a P Switch is pressed. One particular invisible walkway acts as a slide that Toadette can use. An invisible walkway also appears in the Episode 3 Prologue, where it conceals a hidden Golden Mushroom.
