Toy Story plot

Cowboy Woody (Tom Hanks) has been Andy's favourite toy for years. When the boy receives the glitzy astronaut doll Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen) for his birthday, Woody is pushed into the background. The two toys vie for the boy's affection and their bickering throws the toy world upside down. When Buzz falls out of the window at the hands of Woody, Woody must save his eventual friend from the clutches of next-door neighbour, Sid.

Pure childhood sentiment, probably one of my first cinema experiences and a film that always appealed to me as a big fan of toy dolls. But what is striking is that a film with computer effects that is almost 25 years old is still standing. Of course, certain elements are outdated, but as far as I'm concerned, these are only really visible in the sequences around Scud, Sid's dog. The main characters are all very strong and lively, with an excellent and appropriate voice cast, which fortunately mainly consists of a few very strong comedians. Toy Story is a warm and charming product, on the one hand with a simple but effective story and on the other hand an extremely high joke density with plenty of room for spectacle and adventure. And that in 2018 this still works like a train is quite an achievement!

4.5 stars.

Timeless entertainment for young and old. It is of course a children's film through and through, but there are now and then some references to other films or puns that you do not see as a little boy. The animation still looks very nice and colorful after 25 years. Outdated, yes of course, but it won't lose its charm so quickly. Furthermore, the whole concept is just fun, the story is nice and short and straightforward, and especially the many toys are very cool. Woody and Buzz are the nicest (and Woody in particular is voiced really great by Tom Hanks), but the other characters are also charming one by one. The ending sequence is very good. In general, it really belongs to the top of the animated films, without a doubt. 3.5*.

Christmas is approaching and therefore Andy [John Morris]'s toys are in great suspense. Should they fear competition? And what does that mean for their future? Andy's favorite toy is cowboy doll Woody [Tom Hanks], who sets himself up as a spokesperson and leader of the toys and becomes concerned when Andy becomes ecstatic about a new toy: Buzz Lightyear [Tim Allen], a spaceman who ( thinks he) can fly. Woody tries to get rid of Buzz with the help of neighbor Sid [Erik von Detten], who doesn't treat his toys too gently, to say the least. But Woody finds himself in the same boat, forcing him and Buzz to work together to get back to Andy. Groundbreaking as the first full-length animated film made entirely on a computer, but it's the colorful characters, the deluge of visual jokes, the intelligent story and the perfect voice renditions (by a brilliant cast) that make this truly memorable.
