🔈 Today, I'm very excited to announce the release of Ashby's built-in candidate fraud protection system. Candidate Fraud has been a large and growing problem for TA teams - especially those hiring remotely for technical roles. At Ashby, we care deeply about being responsive to the changing needs of our customers. As this trend started to emerge, we pulled it forward on our roadmap. I'm very proud of the approach the product & engineering team took in building this functionality. They moved with urgency, but also spent the last few months working with design partners to iron out this functionality, resulting in a thoughtful solution to the problem. When this feature is enabled, we scan inbound applications for dozens of signals across a few core categories (device anomalies, location mismatches, suspicious online identities, etc.). We then transparently flag any anomalies to the TA team for review. This approach means that legitimate candidates aren't required to take any extra steps to apply, and it means that each team can make its own risk determination of how they want to treat different signals. The early impact we've seen with design partners has been very significant - teams had been interviewing a non-trivial number of fake candidates and were able to bring that number to zero. This functionality is live for all Ashby customers today! Scanning inbound applications for these signals is quite expensive, but we wanted to make sure we don't gate this functionality for any of our plans. As a result, the feature utilizes our existing AI credit system and consumes 2 credits per scanned inbound application. Since we recently increased the credits included in each plan, the vast majority of Ashby customers have a large pool remaining and can turn this feature on right away (you can enable it globally, or turn it on job by job). For folks making heavy use of this feature and requiring more credits, we have an exciting bundle we're launching as part of our AI launch event on 9/25! I'm excited about the impact this will have on both improving the security practices of TA teams out there and giving valuable time back to core hiring activities. The best growth loops   start *before* the product is built. Not "how do we sell this?"   But "what do people already want?" And this matters even more now: When the entire world is vibe coding,   and product velocity is near-infinite,   what you ship *matters less* than why people want it. We're not short on products.   We're short on clarity, traction, and pull. Attention content creators: Stop censoring profanity in your captions. I keep seeing videos where someone swears in the audio, but the captions show "f***" or "s***" instead of the actual words. This isn't protecting anyone. It's creating an accessibility barrier. When you censor captions but not audio, you're giving deaf and hard-of-hearing viewers an incomplete, infantilizing experience. They deserve the same content as everyone else - including the emotional impact and context that comes with someone's actual word choices. Here's what's really happening: • Hearing viewers get the full, unfiltered message • Deaf and hard-of-hearing viewers get a watered-down version • You've created two different experiences for the same content If you're worried about platform algorithms or professional image, that's a content strategy decision you need to make consistently. Either use profanity or don't. But don't create this weird middle ground where some of your audience gets censored content and others don't. Captions should match what's actually being said. Word for word. That's not just good practice - it's basic respect for your deaf and hard-of-hearing audience. It’s not a manager’s job to manage a Notion page. It’s to lead people and systems to work together to drive outcomes. That means making company goals clear and helping teams move in sync to achieve them. Most managers miss this. They confuse clarity with control. They build fiefdoms, not flow. They layer on process, but can’t answer the simplest question: “Why does this work matter?” They often sit back when they need to lean in and lean in when they need to sit back losing the balance of today’s imperative to lead at a multi dimensional level. Modern managers need to step up. Make sense of the work. ✅ Be crystal clear about the company’s goals ✅ Coach people to connect their work to those goals ✅ Push pace. Drive executional velocity. Ask: Why not now? Why not today? ✅ Make the customer experience the throughline. Is it beautiful? Does it make life easier? ✅ Connect the dots. The work shouldn’t feel like a tech stack Tetris board. This is the real work. And it’s why middle management is harder than ever. The system wasn’t built for this, but this is what’s required now. And the truth is AI largely can already do a lot of this if the data is set up right which will mean continuing to raise the bar as a leader.
