Opportunity and Sovereignty in Indian Country

In many Native communities, it’s common for people to drive hours to the nearest bank or ATM, and underinvestment in people and places closes the door to economic growth and wealth building, homeownership, quality healthcare, and living wage jobs.

Led by people with deep knowledge of their communities, most Native CDFIs operate on tribal lands and are managed and staffed by tribal citizens. The majority function as independent nonprofits — separate from tribal governments — and provide hard-to-gain access to credit, equity, and financial assistance, especially in rural communities.

Native CDFIs spark a powerful multiplier effect, creating jobs and self-sufficiency for individuals and families, which leads to more stable and prosperous communities.
