Candy Cane Slime Recipe

  • Two, 7 oz white school glue like Elmers
  • ½ tsp baking soda x2
  • ¼ cup water x2
  • Red gel food coloring
  • 3 cups Shaving cream x2 (the foamy kind, not gel)
  • 3 tbsp contact solution (the activator!) x2 *Must contain both boric acid and sodium borate* We used Renu
  • Mixing bowl
  • Spoon

What Kind of Contact Solution Do You Need for Fluffy Slime?

To make fluffy slime, you’ll need a contact lens solution that contains boric acid and sodium borate like Renu. These ingredients are essential for activating the slime and achieving the desired texture. Here are some common options:

  • Saline Solution with Boric Acid: Choose solutions labeled for sensitive eyes or multi-purpose use, ensuring they list boric acid and sodium borate in the ingredients.
  • Renu Fresh or BioTrue: These popular brands work well for slime as they contain the necessary activating ingredients.

Always double-check the ingredient list to confirm the presence of both boric acid and sodium borate for successful slime-making.

What Food Coloring Works for Fluffy Slime?

You may use liquid food coloring or gel food coloring:

  • Liquid: Easy to mix and customizable, but too much may alter the slime’s texture.
  • Gel: More concentrated, requiring less for vibrant colors and minimally affecting texture.

How to make candy cane fluffy slime – Instructions:

Step 1: Prepare the Base
In a mixing bowl, add the Elmer’s school glue, baking soda, and water. Stir together until fully combined. This will be the base for your fluffy slime!

Step 2: Make Your First Color (White)
For the first batch, leave the slime white (no food coloring needed). Proceed to Step 4.

Step 3: Make Your Second Color (Red)
In a separate bowl, repeat the base-making process (glue, baking soda, and water). Add a few drops of red food coloring to this batch and stir until it’s the perfect red shade.

Step 4: Stir in the Shaving Cream
For both the white and red slimes, spray in about 3 cups of shaving cream. Stir well to incorporate it into the mixture. The more you stir, the fluffier the slime will get!

Step 5: Activate the Slime
Slowly add the contact solution to each batch and stir until the slime starts to come together and pull away from the sides of the bowl. It should feel less sticky and more stretchy!

Step 6: Twist Your Slime into a Candy Cane Shape
Once both the red and white fluffy slimes are ready, it’s time to have fun! Stretch out pieces of each color and twist them together to create a candy cane shape. You can also swirl the two colors together to make a marbled effect.

How long does fluffy slime last?

Fluffy slime typically lasts 1 to 2 weeks if stored properly. Here are a few tips to make it last:

  1. Store it in an airtight container to prevent it from drying out.
  2. Keep it at room temperature—extreme heat or cold can affect its texture.
  3. Avoid playing with dirty hands to keep it clean and free from bacteria or debris.
  4. If it starts to get sticky or hard, add a bit of lotion or shaving cream to restore its fluffiness.

Signs it’s time to toss it include bad odors, discoloration, or a change in texture that can’t be fixed.
