The Komayto (コメト Kometo) is an extraterrestrial enemy in the Kid Icarus series. These creatures bear a striking resemblance to the Metroids from the popular Metroid series.
Characterics
A Komayto resembles a floating blue jellyfish with a set of four fangs and a cluster of neural cells that function as the creature's brain. Its durable skin is tougher than it looks, able to withstand weak attacks.
Appearances
Kid Icarus
Komaytos move in the exact fashion as Monoeyes, in groups of four in the Skyworld level. They attack Pit by ramming (using the Climbing behavior); unlike the average Metroid, Komaytos do not latch onto Pit and drain his energy in this game.
Manual Description
A mysterious floating creature. Nobody knows where it came from. One theory has it that it came from a planet other than Earth. It's a nasty jellyfish monster.

Kid Icarus: Of Myths and Monsters
The Komayto's appearance was drastically altered in the Game Boy sequel, Kid Icarus: Of Myths and Monsters, having only a single "tooth" and appearing in the Skyworld Tower.
Manual Description
A mysterious floating creature. Nobody knows where it came from. It looks like a jellyfish, but floats in the sky.

Kid Icarus: Uprising
Komaytos appear in the game, acting much more like true Metroids than in previous installments of the series. They will latch onto Pit and suck his life energy if he does not dispatch them quick enough. Komaytos are almost identical to the modern depiction of Metroids, with the only real difference being that they now have tentacles instead of claws. Projectile attacks inflict no damage on them, limiting Pit's ability to deal with their life-draining attacks.
Cellular Komaytos (コ細胞 Ko Saibou) are rare enemies, found only during the land battle of Lord of the Underworld.
Idol Descrptions
Komayto
While this creature resembles a certain alien life-form, the last Komaytos are not in captivity and Skyworld is not at peace. Stray too close and it will latch on to you, draining your life energy and restricting your movement.
Cellular Komayto
This cellular version of the Underworld Komayto guards Hades's Belly from intruders. They act like white blood cells, latching onto foes and transferring heir life force to Hades's Belly. Take them out with melee attacks.
Trivia
- Komayto comes from Kometo, short for Kometoroido, meaning "Metroid Child" in Japanese.
- Interestingly, Komaytos can only be harmed by melee attacks in Uprising, possibly referencing the actual Metroid's resilience to most weaponry.
- The topic of Komaytos resembling Metroids was brought up in Kid Icarus: Uprising in the chapter: The Chaos Vortex. Pit mentions that the Komaytos bared a resemblance to Metroids with Viridi denying the thought, stating that the Kid Icarus universe and the Metroid universe were unrelated.
- Furthermore, the Idol description states that "The last Komaytos is not in captivity, Skyworld is not at peace"— this is a reference to the opening to Super Metroid.
