FAQs - booking Colorado flights

  • Where is the closest airport if I want to quickly start exploring Colorado’s mountains?

Colorado is home to many mountains and ski resorts. Booking a flight to Durango via Durango–La Plata County Airport will put you close to the Purgatory Resort. However, it will still be a 44 mi rental car ride to the mountains. A flight to Aspen–Pitkin County Airport will put you near Crested Butte Mountain Resort, and driving to this magnificent resort will take 3h 5m.

  • What is the closest airport to the Rio Grande National Forest?

Consider booking a flight to Colorado Springs, then renting a car and driving to the Rio Grande National Forest (4h 20m). You can also book a flight to the smaller airport located in the town of Durango (Durango–La Plata County Airport). It’s about a 2h 52m drive from Durango to the national forest. However, flights to Colorado Springs are less expensive and more frequent.

  • Where can I book a flight to Colorado?

The state has several airports you can arrive in and depart from. The main four hubs are Aspen–Pitkin County Airport, located in the middle of the state; the City of Colorado Springs Municipal Airport in the southern part of the state; Denver International Airport, the most popular and busiest airport in the state; and Durango–La Plata County Airport, which is the best for anyone wanting to travel to the Southwest.

  • What is the best airport to get to Durango, Colorado?

Durango is on the outskirts of basically everything. You can reach it directly by flying to Durango–La Plata County Airport, but while flights here may be more frequent, they are also more expensive. Consider flying to Albuquerque, NM, via Albuquerque International Sunport (ABQ), and then booking a rental car and driving the 217 mi to Durango. It’s closer and cheaper than flying to either Denver or Pueblo.

  • How long is the flight to Colorado?

An average nonstop flight from the United States to Colorado takes 3h 00m, covering a distance of 1111 miles. The most popular route is New York - Denver with an average flight time of 4h 20m.

  • What is the cheapest flight to Colorado?

The cheapest ticket to Colorado from the United States found in the last 72 hours was $29 one-way, and $52 round-trip. The most popular route is New York John F Kennedy Intl to Denver Intl and the cheapest round-trip airline ticket found on this route in the last 72 hours was $151.

  • Which airlines fly to Colorado?

United Airlines, Southwest & Air Canada fly the most frequently from the United States to Colorado.

  • What are the most popular destinations in Colorado?

Based on KAYAK flight searches, the most popular destination is Denver (83% of total searches to Colorado). The next most popular destinations are Colorado Springs (4%) and Aspen (3%). Searches for flights to Vail (3%), to Montrose (2%) and to Grand Junction (1%) are also popular.

  • How does KAYAK’s flight Price Forecast tool help me choose the right time to buy?

KAYAK’s flight Price Forecast tool uses historical data to determine whether the price for a given destination and date is likely to change within 7 days, so travelers know whether to wait or book now.

Top tips for finding cheap flights to Colorado

  • Enter your preferred departure airport and travel dates into the search form above to unlock the latest Colorado flight deals.
  • To reach the capital city of Denver, Colorado, consider booking a flight to the Denver International Airport (DEN). The airport is not located in the city (26 mi), so be prepared for about an hour-long rental car drive.
  • To reach the Rocky Mountain State Park, consider booking a flight to the Denver airport. It is the northern-most major hub for the park and offers the best choice for anyone wanting to see the northern region of Colorado.
  • The Denver International Airport is a good place to fly for anyone wanting to visit nearby cities. It is located near a few of Colorado’s most popular towns, like Boulder (42m) and Aurora (20m). You can then book nonstop flights from Denver to other parts of the state for cheaper.
  • For fliers coming in from the West Coast, like Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), flights will be significantly cheaper. Flights from East Coast cities, such as Alabama’s Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport (BHM), are going to be more expensive but more frequent.
  • If you want to get to the middle of Colorado, consider booking a flight to Aspen. While flights may be more expensive here, the only other way to reach the city is a lengthy car ride from Denver or Durango.

Stay away from Frontier. Even though the flight ticket may appear cheaper upfront, the costs of bags, and extra fees make the tickets and overall experience more costly and unpleasant.

I upgraded to first class only to find out that I still had no access to the sky lounge without a sky miles card or AmEx (something that should be emphasized outside of the fine print!) Also, no food or drink service provided during the flight, so I basically paid 4x more just for “free” checked baggage and a bigger seat. Not worth it.

Delta was really good about being transparent with why we were delayed it’s just that’s the plane was really old and outdated and a lot of the comfort and amenities we know Delta to have did not shine through

Bottom seat cushion is almost non existent. Very uncomfortable seat.

Delta was great the entertainment was outdated. Screen was very small and didn’t work.

Flight did not have seat back entertainment and the wifi was iffy.

Pretty standard flight. Delta has a good selection of movies.

The WiFi has been awful on my last few Delta Air Lines flights.

The seats are uncomfortable, feels like a small seat pad on plywood.

The seats are uncomfortable and there was no power to recharge a phone.

Flight heavily delayed. No food available despite purchasing an upgrade. No in cabin service.

Smooth boarding and friendly crew. Unfortunately as soon as we boarded the unit that provides air circulation failed. The pilot informed us and requested maintenance technicians to check it out. The plane became uncomfortably warm without any fresh air coming in. Plus the repair delayed our departure. I am glad the maintenance crew were able to fix the problem. I also was without use of my tv monitor for the first 1/3rd of the trip.

Communication with the customer and stay is important. Staff off with a minor inconvenience but it worked out of course. Also this was a very old Mint Class plane. They snuck this one in on us. The updated aircraft are much better.

The flight itself was fine, but the boarding process was extremely frustrating. There is no one scanning boarding passes - passengers just scan themselves and enter the jetway. By the time my husband and I got on the plane and were halfway to our seats they determined there were too many bags on the plane and everything at that point needed to be checked. This created a lot of unnecessary chaos. They should have alerted people before getting on the plane that they would need to start checking bags instead of waiting until people were already on the plane.

The best flight I’ve had in a while. The plane was like 25% capacity, if that. Smoothest boarding and deplaning process I’ve ever experienced. Wish all flights were this smooth.

Did not enjoy this flight at all. All of my coworkers flew delta and I chose JetBlue because I really value how simple the WiFi and entertainment is and this flight I didn’t get either. Crew staff was unsympathetic to my system not working, everyone I asked for help with was extremely bothered by my request for help.

Little snafu at boarding. Staff communicated with gate poorly. Flight attendant was rude making disembark early. This was an older mint class. Needs an overhaul for sure. Food was good. The male flight attendant was really nice.

My encounter with the entertainment services provided on board was moderate; the functionality of the Wi-Fi connection was either sluggish or nonoperational, while the display screens were antiquated and suffered from poor visibility. On the positive side, the cabin exuded a sense of expansiveness, and the crew exhibited amiable and accommodating behavior throughout the journey.

Everything was great except for some reason crew and ground crew could not figure out how to deal with an electric wheelchair and it delayed us 20-30mins. Was pretty frustrating for passengers and the captain.

Like the space, did not like the snack options, there was no power outlet in seats, no entertainment, no flyfi.

Traveling with JetBlue from NYC was convenient as accessing JFK airport was straightforward via the LIRR to the AirTrain. Maneuvering through the terminal was hassle-free, which was a pleasant start to the journey. However, the flight experience itself left much to be desired. The seating arrangement was notably uncomfortable; despite securing a window seat, space felt cramped. This was exacerbated by the middle seat passenger encroaching on my area, which made the flight less enjoyable. Additionally, while the in-flight entertainment system initially seemed like a reprieve, the sound outlet on my seat was inoperable. This issue turned what could have been a manageable three-hour flight into a rather tedious ordeal, as I was unable to use the entertainment system effectively. While JetBlue provided a smooth process in terms of airport logistics, the on-board experience highlighted areas in need of improvement, particularly in terms of comfort and entertainment system maintenance.

The food for long haul was poor compared to Singapore airlines economy. Pasta plain with tomato sauce . Singapore airlines give me Hagen dash small ice cream cup it was great. The choices of dinner course Singapore air also much better The crew mostly friendly. The economy seat are as expected.

The plane was clean. The staff was excellent. The flight attendants were very good. Enjoyable flight. Overall. The seats in the back are too small but, will always be.

Flight was 3 1/2 hour delayed with no credit or meal vouchers

late departure due to some unspecified issue with ventilating the cabin. They got it running but it was FREEZING for the whole flight. I asked for a blanket but they didn't provide one. They could not turn up the heat. it was quite miserable.

Liked that we left on time for each flight. Snacks not the best, but we're okay.

It was fine. The flight attendant appeared to be in a bad mood but everything was fine.

The entertainment would not work. The comfort of the seats leaves something to be desired, pretty uncomfortable.

Pleasant service from the crew. Arrived early. Efficient boarding and deplaning. Great job!

Everything was perfect except the pad at the top of the seat back. It pushes my head forward in a very uncomfortable position and it is not removable.

They had three choices for snacks - but you could only have one - and they ran out of the dark chocolate before they made it all the way down the aisle... Packed flight - limited service.

Great flight from Charlotte to Orlando. In flight wifi and entertainment was not working til 25 minutes were left in the flight would be my only complaint.

More room. International flight - by the time you put your purse and shoes under the seat in front of you, add in the pillow and blanket they give you- makes for tight fit.

Boarding can be more efficiently done by having the back row passengers board first. This way, the other people do the have to wait for front row passengers to load their luggage in the overhead cabins. Food is simply pathetic for the price I paid. Cleanliness is simply poor; my seat was full of crumps.

Overall good. Tight connection in DFW because of gate unavailability upon landing.

Airplane was cold. Flight attendants were rude. Phone charger did not work. No food available.

No food, no entertainment. But the flight was really short so maybe they had to skip drinks. I was able to board early ONLY because I am old and decrepit and they let me pre-board. I RESENT your dumping us into category 9 if we do not pay up. And when I paid for a seat I was STILL given 9. The pre-boarding helps. THIS flight was exceptionally smooth, please congratulate the pilots.

I love to flight american however my carry on had to be sent with regular luggage and it was broken. Don't appreciate that. If when I buy a ticket says I can take a carry on and a hand item there should be space for mwsy stuff and not be basically forced to send the item even if it's at no charge. A.A. needs to work on that. Everything else excellent.

Deparature was late, which is annoying but the arrival was fine and the baggage came early.

Excellent customer service at check in at Austin flight to DFW and excellent customer service from Karren in terminal B at DFW.

The free internet access did not work, so we had to purchase 2 Internet packages. Flight attendants were not proactive in checking in with first class patrons

Our flight was canceled for no known reason. We weren’t told until we were checking in at 5:00 am. This was after our last flight with Frontier where we sat on the plane for three hours (not an exaggeration) before we took off because of a mechanical issue. We won’t be flying Frontier again.

Allowed me to chose my seat without extra charge (I purchased full-price ticket) and boarding was in group1. Didn't even serve water.

Stuck in Phoenix for two days, not even a hotel voucher offered.

Every day about it was very different all the boarding pass where all wrong l miss flight no refund all crazy

Flight got delayed for 3.5 hours, and for the first hour after the departure time there was no update from the gate folks...

Both flights were delayed. The sizing of bags is crazy. I know it is advertised as a no frills cheaper option but it does feel like you are being extorted for money the whole way-- $20 dollars to talk to a gate agent? Charging for soda a pretzels? I don't think I will be flying Frontier again if I can help it. That said, all the staff were wonderful.

Staff members pretty horrible when boarding. No care for customers

Frontier is definitely a good option for people traveling light or on a budget - just remember to bring your own entertainment and your own headphones if you need them.

The plane was very clean, the flight attendants were chipper and accommodating. It was roomy

I didn’t have enough time to catch my connecting flight and had to use a different Airline. I will be requesting a refund.
