Top 10 hotels in Queens

Discover the top hotels in Queens, handpicked by local expert Laura Ratliff.
Laura Ratliff

If you want to try a different neighbourhood for your next visit to New York City, or you’re travelling and need to be close to one of the area’s airports, Queens is an attractive option. Having lived in Manhattan and now in Brooklyn, I often visit Queens. The borough is home to many cultural hotspots like Citi Field, home of the New York Mets, and Arthur Ashe Stadium, where the US Open is held each year. Some of the best hotels in Queens can be found in Long Island City, which offers stunning views of Manhattan from its many green spaces. Nearby, Flushing has one of the city’s largest Asian-American populations and attracts visitors from around the world, as well as from the city itself. If you really want to get away from the hustle and bustle of the Big Apple, the borough even has beaches, with a few unique hotels in Queens that will make you feel like you’re at a tropical resort. Here’s my pick of the top places to stay in Queens.

1.

Sonder Court Square

Address:

45-06 Pearson Street

Price:

£122-1603/night

Located in the heart of bustling Long Island City, Sonder Court Square is hands down one of the best hotels in Queens. It’s just steps away from some of my favourite cultural institutions, including MoMA’s PS1 outpost, an artist-focussed museum featuring contemporary art, and SculptureCenter, which focusses on emerging artists.

The hotel is also right by the 7 train, giving you fast access to Manhattan and Citi Field on gamedays. Meanwhile, the NYC Ferry is a short walk away, which serves Manhattan and Brooklyn. It’s located in Gantry Plaza State Park, which provides fantastic views of the Manhattan skyline and plenty of seating options for taking it all in.

Each unit in Sonder Court Square features a fully stocked kitchen, including a dishwasher and microwave, and comes with a streaming-enabled television and air conditioning for relaxing after a long day exploring the neighbourhood.

2.

The Rockaway Hotel

Address:

108-10 Rockaway Beach Drive

Price:

£43-764/night

One of the things I love most about Queens is that you can even enjoy a beach getaway here. Located right on Rockaway Beach, the Rockaway Hotel is one of the best hotels in Queens and offers an excellent alternative to staying in one of the JFK Airport hotels.

Just steps away from your room, you can find yourself on the beach or sampling food from one of the many vendors dotting the boardwalk – La Cevicheria is my favourite – before heading off to the city or JFK. The Rockaway Hotel also has a year-round heated outdoor pool that’s a major hit with both locals and hotel guests, thanks to the full cocktail menu available.

Before hitting the beach each morning, grab a free coffee from reception or have breakfast at Margie’s (my personal favourite), an American Bistro located within the hotel that also serves a full dinner menu at night.

3.

Hyatt Regency Jfk Airport At Resorts World New York

Address:

110-00 Rockaway Blvd

Price:

£211-897/night

A great addition to the JFK area, the Hyatt Regency JFK opened its 400 rooms to the public in 2021, making it one of the best hotels in Queens near the airport. This is one of my favourite options for a quick overnight trip, especially if I have a late-night flight planned.

The hotel, which also doubles as a casino, features rooms that face either the city skyline or JFK, a plus for aviation enthusiasts. Each room includes free Wi-Fi, a coffee maker, a mini refrigerator with bottled water, and plenty of wardrobe space. The stylish, modern bathroom has a walk-in shower and Pharmacopia toiletries.

While the property doesn’t have an on-site restaurant, it features a club-level lounge with complimentary food and drinks, including beer and wine. The lounge is available to guests for a small fee and those with a Hyatt Globalist membership.

4.

Renaissance New York Flushing Hotel at Tangram

Address:

133-36 37th Avenue

Price:

£184-703/night

One of the top-rated hotels in Queens, The Renaissance New York Flushing Hotel is located in Flushing, just off Main Street. This is moments away from all the culinary delights the neighbourhood is famous for, from soup dumplings and bubble tea to noodles. One of the best hotels in Queens for location, it’s also right near Flushing Meadows Corona Park and highlights like the Unisphere and Queens Botanical Garden.

The hotel’s 208 rooms feature spacious workspaces, air conditioning, coffee makers, and bathrooms with designer toiletries. But my favourite spot has to be the rooftop, which offers stellar views of the city. The hotel is part of a retail complex with a 4DX cinema, 30 restaurants, and upscale retail stores, and also provides a complimentary return trip airport shuttle to LaGuardia, valet parking, and electric car charging.

5.

Boro Hotel

Address:

38-28 27th Street

Price:

£127-846/night

This boutique hotel in Queens is in Long Island City and features a chic design with co-working spaces. I always enjoy the panoramic views of the Empire State Building and East River from the rooftop bar here, while the hotel's convenient location near various subway lines and LaGuardia Airport makes getting around a breeze.

Many of the rooms have NYC views, and with Long Island City’s proximity to Manhattan, the panoramas are incredible. Along with Boro’s on-site restaurant Beebe’s, which serves wood-fired pizza and cocktails, the hotel has a snack bar for when you need a quick refuel.

Nearby attractions include MoMA PS1 and the Museum of the Moving Image, while culinary institutions like M. Wells Steakhouse and American Brass aren’t far away. If you really want to immerse yourself in the culinary scene, book a cheese-making course at the Long Island City branch of Brooklyn Grange, an expansive rooftop farm.

6.

The Modernist Hotel

Address:

38-30 28th Street

Price:

£120-977/night

Located in a thriving art-centric neighbourhood with plenty of galleries, studios, and museums, The Modernist Hotel is one of the best hotels in Queens. During the day, Hunters Point South Park and Gantry Plaza State Park are great local options for picnics or leisurely walks. At night, Long Island City offers an abundance of fine dining, along with nightlife options ranging from intimate cocktail bars to lively clubs.

The guestrooms at the Modernist range from deluxe rooms with balconies to suites with Manhattan views, and the property pays tribute to the neighbourhood with plenty of local art dotted throughout the rooms and public spaces. Guestrooms come with all the mod-cons, including coffee makers, kitchenettes, air conditioning, and TVs. While the Modernist doesn’t have a restaurant, they offer snacks at reception and there are plenty of exciting eateries in the neighbourhood.

7.

Asiatic Hotel - Flushing

Address:

135-21 37th Avenue

Price:

£109-478/night

The Asiatic Hotel is just minutes from some of the area’s most iconic locations, including Citi Field and the Queens Botanical Gardens (one of my all-time favourite spots). Located in Flushing, the neighbourhood is known for its vibrant cultural scene and culinary delights, with markets offering a variety of Asian cuisine, from authentic dim sum to soup dumplings.

The hotel offers a range of comfortable rooms with modern amenities, while bathrooms come equipped with hairdryers and toiletries. Guests can also enjoy access to a convenient local shuttle service, making travel to nearby attractions like Flushing Meadows Corona Park hassle-free.

In the mornings, the hotel offers a complimentary continental breakfast to help get your day started on the right foot, while free snacks and bottled water are available to keep you energised.

8.

Four Points by Sheraton Flushing

Address:

33-68 Farrington Street

Price:

£156-611/night

This pet-friendly hotel in Flushing is near the recently renovated LaGuardia Airport. Like many of the best hotels in Queens, the Four Points by Sheraton offers hourly shuttles to LGA, and is located a few minutes from the 7 train at Main Street, giving visitors quick access to Manhattan.

Each room includes Wi-Fi, a coffee maker, a 55-inch television equipped with streaming services, and blackout shades to help you get a good night’s sleep (something I definitely appreciated on my last trip here).

While there, I enjoyed the heated pool for a quick dip to start my day, while the 24/7 fitness centre with weights, treadmills, and a rowing machine was a great place to work up a sweat.

9.

Lic Hotel

Address:

44-04 21st Street

Price:

£94-858/night

Located one subway stop from Manhattan, the LIC Hotel blends convenience with the comforts of a thriving neighbourhood. Guests looking for one of the best hotels in Queens with easy access to cultural attractions will find it here. After a busy day of gallery and museum hopping, sit down for a steak at the famed M. Wells Steakhouse or visit Dutch Kills for a late-night cocktail.

If you opt for a day in the city, you can spend the evening on the hotel’s rooftop terrace admiring the NYC skyline from afar. Guests can enjoy private parking and free Wi-Fi access here, while each guestroom is equipped with a refrigerator and flat-screen TV. Private bathrooms also include complimentary toiletries and a hair dryer. Best of all, the hotel offers free breakfast to set you up for a busy day ahead.

10.

Vista LIC Hotel, BW Premier Collection

Address:

27-05 39th Avenue

Price:

£148-694/night

Located in Long Island City, the Vista LIC Hotel offers no shortage of things to do both day and night in this exciting neighbourhood. My favourite place to visit is Gantry Plaza State Park, a scenic spot just minutes from the hotel that offers beautiful views of Manhattan and the East River.

After a day of exploring the neighbourhood, unwind at Vista LIC’s rooftop bar, the Vista Sky Lounge, which serves signature cocktails and a full dinner menu. If you prefer to dine closer to the ground, nearby Michael’s Cafe serves relaxed American fare with a pub attached for drinks afterward.

In the morning, guests can get breakfast from the Sky Lounge and the hotel also has a 24-hour fitness centre, facilities for disabled guests, express check-in/check-out, luggage storage, and Wi-Fi in public areas, making this one of the best hotels in Queens for amenities.
