  1. Twaddell
    A form of hydrometer for liquids heavier than water, graduated with an arbitrary scale such that the readings when multiplied by .005 and added to unity give the specific gravity.

  1. (n) twaddell
    A hydrometer graduated so that each division represents the same change of density. It is used for densities greater than that of water, and the excess above unity is found by multiplying by 5 and dividing by 1,000—that is, 200 divisions of the scale represent unity. Sometimes spelled Twaddle.
