Map of silk, from the English Air Force (RAF). The fabric is printed on both sides with the maps 44 A and 44 B of Burma, part of French Indo China, part of Siam, now Thailand, part of India and part of China. The silk maps were intended for pilots and crew members of the RAF. The material made them light, resistant to water and the humid climate in general. The map is an additional donation to NG-2000-5, the so-called map dress. This house coat was made in Indonesia by Mrs. Terwen de Loos from silk maps that were popular for making clothing after the liberation due to the textile scarcity. This additional donation gives a good idea of the original function of the silk maps.
