Trey Benson - Won't play in Week 18 Arizona placed Benson (ankle) on injured reserve Tuesday, Darren Urban of the Cardinals' official site reports.
Impact Benson will end up missing the final three games of his rookie season due to the ankle injury he sustained in a Dec. 15 win over the Patriots. Before getting hurt, the third-round pick out of Florida State had solidified his spot as the top backup to lead back James Conner. Over his 13 appearances, Benson carried 63 times for 291 yards (4.6 average) and a touchdown while reeling in all six of his targets for 59 yards.

Jalen Thompson - Tallies six tackles vs. Rams Thompson recorded six tackles (four solo) during the Cardinals' 13-9 loss to the Rams.
Impact Thompson tied with Mack Wilson as the Cardinals' third leading tackler Saturday behind Kyzir White (eight) and Budda Baker (seven). Thompson has logged at least six combined tackles in nine of 14 games, and on the year he's up to 88 tackles (56 solo), three pass defenses and one fumble recovery. The 2019 fifth-round pick has an outside chance of reaching the tackling century mark in Arizona's regular-season finale against San Francisco next Sunday.

Greg Dortch - Another three catches in Week 17 Dortch recorded three catches (on three targets) for 18 yards, one kick return for 28 yards and two punt returns for 15 yards during Saturday's 13-9 defeat at the Rams.
Impact Aside from a 60-yard outburst Week 15 against the Patriots, Dortch hasn't surpassed 20 receiving yards since Week 6, a stretch in which he's otherwise mustered an 11-61-1 line on 16 targets over nine contests. Marvin Harrison and Michael Wilson typically handle a majority share of snaps afforded Cardinals wide receivers, leaving Dortch to compete with Zay Jones for tertiary reps at the position.

Elijah Higgins - Notches two catches Saturday Higgins gathered in two of three targets for 23 yards during Saturday's 13-9 loss at the Rams.
Impact The Cardinals started three tight ends Week 17, but Trey McBride continued to dominate snaps (73 of 79) and targets (16, which resulted in a 12-123-1 line), while Higgins (22 and three, respectively) and Tip Reiman (24 and zero) were well behind in both regards. Since the team's Week 11 bye, Higgins' snap share has ranged from 19-36 percent on a game-to-game basis, but his cumulative 6-56-0 line on nine targets over the last six contests have left much to be desired. He'll look to put one last stamp on his second pro season Week 18 against the 49ers.

Michael Carter - Shifts back to practice squad Carter reverted to the Cardinals' practice squad Monday, per the NFL's transaction report.
Impact Carter was the beneficiary of No. 1 RB James Conner lasting just 12 offensive snaps before seemingly aggravating a knee injury that capped his practice reps during Week 17 prep. The former stepped in for Conner and parlayed 57 (of 79) snaps into 15 touches for 81 yards from scrimmage, including 70 yards on the ground (a 5.4 average). Meanwhile, fellow reserve back DeeJay Dallas (11 snaps) had just one catch and no carries for a second straight contest. With the status of both Conner and rookie third-rounder Trey Benson (inactive the last two games due to an ankle injury) up in the air for a Week 18 matchup with the 49ers, Carter could be Arizona's lead runner in the regular-season finale.

Impact Blount suffered a rib injury during the Cardinals' overtime loss to the Panthers in Week 16, which forced him to be sidelined during Saturday's 13-9 loss to the Rams. Impact Wilson returned from a one-game absence Saturday after clearing the league's five-step concussion protocols. He ended up playing 70 percent of the Cardinals' defensive snaps and finished tied with Jalen Thompson for third-most tackles on the team behind Kyzir White (eight) and Budda Baker (seven). Wilson is up to 73 combined tackles through 15 games, and he'll look to match or surpass his career best from the 2019 campaign (82 tackles through 16 regular-season games) in Week 18 against the 49ers.

Chad Ryland - Has extra-point attempt blocked Ryland connected on a 28-yard field-goal attempt but missed his lone extra-point try during Saturday's 13-9 loss to the Rams.
Impact Ryland didn't have a kicking attempt until the third quarter, when the Cardinals finished a 13-play drive with a one-yard touchdown pass from Kyler Murray to Trey McBride. Unfortunately for Ryland his extra-point attempt was blocked, which kept the deficit at four points. He converted on a 28-yard chip shot early in the fourth quarter, but he didn't kick another field goal as the Cardinals were in need of a touchdown to take the lead. It's unclear whether Ryland will serve as Arizona's kicker for the regular-season finale against San Francisco since Matt Prater (knee) has been designated to return from injured reserve.

Impact According to Arizona head coach Jonathan Gannon, Conner may have aggravated the knee injury he initially suffered last Sunday against Carolina by being "twisted up on" at the end of a carry early in the second quarter. After the Cardinals announced that the veteran running back was questionable to re-enter the contest, Conner spent much of the rest of the game with his helmet on along the sideline, and he was never formally ruled out, though he did get looked at by trainers. Gannon mentioned that the plan going into the game was for Conner to be "full go," and the head coach suggested that the talented tailback "wasn't healthy enough to go back in" after being pulled despite Conner's desire to do so. Arizona has already been eliminated from postseason contention, which could be a factor in Conner's status for the team's regular-season finale next weekend against San Francisco.
