Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez left confused by Super Bowl question
Liverpool FC's Premier League stars were asked to predict the winner of the Super Bowl this weekend, with 13 players making their prediction, including Darwin Nunez
Liverpool star Darwin Nunez was left scratching his head when asked to predict the winner of Super Bowl LVIII. The Reds' players were filmed for a social media video, picking out the team they reckon will win the NFL's championship game this weekend.
While stars like Virgil van Dijk, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Diogo Jota confidently backed Kansas City Chiefs, even namedropping quarterback Patrick Mahomes to prove their knowledge of the sport, striker Nunez wasn't so sure.
After studying both teams' logos, he eventually picked the San Francisco 49ers, chuckling as he made his choice.
His teammate Luis Diaz also seemed unsure but ended up backing the Niners too. Cody Gakpo joined them in supporting the 49ers, while ten Liverpool players predicted a Chiefs victory (10-3 Chiefs).
The Liverpool squad will have the chance to watch the Super Bowl, as they're playing Burnley the day before. They then have a week off before their match against Brentford.
Despite being top of the Premier League, their rivals Manchester City have a game in hand and are aiming for their fourth consecutive title this season.
Like Liverpool, the Niners are hoping to stop the champions from winning again, as the Chiefs aim for their second championship in a row.
Star quarterback Mahomes, at just 28, will be playing in his fourth Super Bowl, having won two and lost one to Tom Brady's Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2021.
Nunez might not be an NFL guy, but he's proving Jurgen Klopp right after the club spent nearly £85m to sign him in 2022. The Uruguayan had a slow start in his first campaign but now boasts 11 goals and 11 assists in a strong year so far.
Liverpool are still in the running to win every competition they've entered this season, which will be manager Jurgen Klopp's last term as he's set to leave the club this summer.
