About this ebook

Not a romance. Strictly paranormal fiction.

When Darkness created Ben, his second in command, he did not see the beast he had unleashed.
The Underworld is their playground as king and prince, but even Hell has rules. Ben slowly deteriorates and even though he consumes every demon in his path, he doesn't grow in health or power. But when his true energy source is found, the balance of power shifts.

Soon Ben shows the world what he is capable of and, like a virus, his dark power spreads and devours everything in its path. Demons join forces to end the reign of terror Ben’s ravenous army of children spread throughout the realms. War will raze the lands and leave behind mountains of bones. By the time Darkness realizes he needs to step in, the damage is too far gone to be reversed. Decisions must be made.

To my family, I love you so very much. Thank you for giving me five minutes a day to write. <3

Friends: I LOVE EVERY ONE OF YOU! You each play a part in this big picture and if I didn’t have you by my side, my hair would be gone by now. My husband appreciates that and I do, too! April Newman, Brandy Pafford, Mom, Jessica Corbin, Sandra Timmins, Kelli Barry, Ariana McWilliams, Gabby Warner, and Tiffany Halliday; I can send you anything at any time and you will give me straightforward opinions no matter what. My amazing team and mentors in so many ways. <3

The Grumpy and Memaw are my idea makers and plot weavers. Without them, these stories wouldn’t be near what they are today. If you enjoy the twists and turns in my books, they most likely had a hand in that. Thank you for everything!

Marisa Shor with Cover Me, Darling is the reason my books look the way they do, inside and out. She’s amazing and makes all the pretties (and scaries)! Allyson Gottlieb with Athena Interior Book Design is an angel. She and Marisa make my books amazing! Thank you and I love you both! <3

To two extremely patient, thorough, and hilarious editors at the No More Typos: YOU ROCK! I may kick and scream like a three year old, but the end results are worth it.

To the reader: Thank you for spending your precious time on my books. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do and please let me know what you think!

The Angel of Darkness stood on a mountain overlooking the small camp below. A wave of triumph washed over him as the man being tested built the altar. The air was heavy with centuries of waiting for this very moment as he watched the events unfold.

Abraham finished the altar and laid his son, Isaac, atop it as the ultimate sacrifice. Darkness’s power seeped from his very being, pulsing around him and swallowing everything it touched. He feasted on the fear emanating from the son awaiting his father’s blade. He gloried in the corruption of pure faith the father exuded, mistakenly believing he was doing the right thing.

The man raised his blade above his head and looked to the heavens for approval. Darkness whispered on the wind to him, Sacrifice the lamb and you will earn your place inside the gates. Abraham nodded his understanding and Darkness descended upon them.

A blinding white light beamed at Abraham as his blade came down, stopping it mere inches from his son’s chest. The Angel of Darkness shielded his eyes and turned away, protecting himself from the sudden burst of energy pushing at his own.

The Angel of Light stood before Abraham with her palm facing toward him. She shook her head and Abraham dropped his blade, falling to his knees with tears streaming down his cheeks. Isaac climbed from the altar and pulled his father up to his feet. They mumbled words to each other and clung together for a few moments.

Darkness felt his power shrink back into his being. Fear was no longer feeding him. His anger boiled below his skin, threatening to erupt at any moment. The Angel of Light’s energy collided with his body shoving him back and crumpling him to his knees. A wail of anguish escaped him but no human could hear the sound.

Light guided Abraham to a ram caught in brambles nearby to sacrifice in place of his son and helped untangle the beast. Their faces shone with joy as Abraham and Isaac hugged each other tightly again. They knelt down for a prayer before bringing the blade down on the ram.

Light watched Darkness crawl away, writhing in pain. The joy of saving Isaac from him boosted her and helped to stand tall. The last cry of suffering from the dark angel as he abandoned the realm pierced her ears and made her wince.

Darkness hid away in the underworld after that dreadful night. His cries of pain and defeat left an indelible mark on the surface world. Echoes of his anguish that night struck fear into humans for generations and spread throughout the regions. They called him the Boogie Man and in the dark, stories came alive.

Decades passed as he wallowed in the depths of the underworld, sharing his misery with the souls trapped there. The damned shrank in fear when he passed by and howled in terror when he stopped. Darkness stopped near one of them for only one reason. The unfortunate encounter would burn in their memories, a new part of their eternal torture. With every ounce of fear and hatred that permeated his soul, he mended inside and out. The Angel of Light had diminished his power with that burst of energy. But he slowly restored his former glory with every damned soul he tormented.

With his inner flame once again at a roar, Darkness rose to the surface world to commence his search for the opportunity he desperately needed. His first breath of
