About this ebook

The Earth had survived centuries of climate change, wars, and the unbridled exploitation of its resources. In the 50th century, humanity was on the brink of the abyss, with oceans receding and water shortages ravaging cities. It was against this backdrop that a desperate mission arose: an interstellar journey to a distant galaxy, where it was believed that a solution to the water crisis existed.

Astraeus ship, commanded by Captain Kade Blake, returned from its mission with a small sample of water obtained from an unknown planet. At first, this sample seemed to be salvation, pure and crystalline. But what the scientists did not know was that this water contained a virus, microscopic and lethal.

    Prologue:

A tragedy across the stars: The arrival of the virus

The contagion began silently, first among the scientists working with the sample, then among the ship's crew. Upon returning to Earth, the virus spread like an invisible shadow, affecting first the animal kingdom and then humans.

The initial symptoms were subtle – a slight dizziness, ringing in the ears – but they quickly developed into something more. Within days, the humans began to lose their hearing. Meanwhile, the animals went blind, but their hearing senses became alarmingly acute. So, the hunt began.

The world, already on the brink of collapse due to lack of resources, entered a new state of chaos. Animals, now relentless predators, turned on humans, guided by their keen senses. Humanity, weakened, faced imminent extinction.

    Introduction:

A planet on the brink of collapse

The world that had once been vibrant and full of life had withered. Cities, once great monuments of progress and technology, had become ruined fortresses, surrounded by deserts of dust and dry bones. The oceans, which had been the heartbeat of life on Earth, were now stagnant masses of dark, fetid water, barely inhabited by life forms adapted to environmental misery.

Natural resources, particularly water, had reached a critical point of scarcity. Rivers that once flowed strongly were now dry furrows in the earth, and lakes were little more than brackish puddles. Daily survival had become a relentless struggle, and every drop of clean water was a precious commodity.

Amidst this apocalyptic environment, one man emerged: Kade Blake, the commander of the interstellar mission that brought the virus to Earth. He had led his team with bravery and determination across the vast voids of space, but upon his return, he found himself not as the saving hero, but as a man scarred by the disaster he unwittingly unleashed.

Now, Kade must lead the last bastions of humanity in the fight for survival. But it's not just a battle against nature turned enemy: it's a battle against time, against his own demons, and against a virus that continues to mutate, destroying everything in its path.

Chapter 1: The Return of Hope

The night sky was dotted with stars that flickered like faint hopes in a world without a future. The Astraeus ship was slowly descending, entering the Earth's atmosphere after months of ploughing through the depths of the cosmos. Commander Kade Blake watched from the cockpit, his face serious and impenetrable. The return home should have been a glorious moment, but the weight of the failed mission oppressed him.

The water brought from the remote planet had not been the ultimate solution they had hoped for. But it was not just the failure that troubled Kade. Something about the sample did not feel right, and from the start, the erratic behavior of some crew members had begun to raise alarm bells. However, in the face of despair over the shortage on Earth, the return of Astraeus was welcomed as a symbol of hope.

When the ship landed at the old space complex, the crew was greeted with cheers. Scientists, leaders and the world's press waited anxiously to see the salvation they brought with them. Kade, flanked by his officers, descended from the ship with the cylinder containing the water sample, sweat beading on his forehead, a bad feeling growing within him.

The facility's laboratory was packed with experts who immediately began analyzing the liquid. At first, the results looked promising: pure water, free of Earthly contaminants. However, in the control room, symptoms began to show among the crew members. Severe headaches, ringing in the ears, and an uncontrollable feeling of vertigo. Kade, resilient by nature, was the last to be affected, but he couldn't ignore how his world was becoming increasingly silent.

Astraeus’ return were short-lived. Only days later, chaos began to break out. The first to be affected were the animals: birds crashing into windows, domestic animals moving clumsily, as if they had been blinded. Within hours, humanity followed the same fate, albeit in reverse. People began to lose their hearing, falling into a terrifying silence. As the virus spread, confusion gave way to panic, and panic turned to survival.

Kade Blake, however, could not afford to give in to fear. His vision, sharper than it had ever been, allowed him to see details that had previously gone unnoticed. From his makeshift headquarters in a devastated city, he watched as nature turned against him. The animals that had once been companions in the fight for survival had become his deadliest enemies. The creatures, blinded by the virus, had developed a sense of hearing so acute that they could detect the slightest human whisper, and they used this new power to hunt with devastating precision.

The first attack came at dusk, when a pack of wolves, usually elusive in recent years, appeared at the edges of the human shelter. Kade and his men could barely hear the crunch of their footsteps on the dry earth, but the wolves, guided by their superhuman hearing, detected the refugees' breathing and launched an attack. That night, the humans learned that silence was their only weapon, but for a species accustomed to noise and chaos, adapting to total silence was a death sentence.

Kade, with his keen vision, led his soldiers in
