    Introduction

Let’s face it. All of us make bad decisions. It's perfectly okay to own up to your bad decisions. It happens to everybody. With that said, some people tend to make more bad decisions than others. This is a big deal.

As you probably already know, the quality of your life, in terms of your income, net worth, what other people think of you, and your overall well-being are direct results of your decisions. Put simply, our lives are the effects and our decisions are the causes.

There is a straight line between the decisions we make on a day to day basis and the kind of life we live. Unfortunately, a lot of people think that the decisions they make are simply part of who they are. They don't need to put much thought in how their choices come about.

It is no surprise to learn that a lot of these people keep making the same bad choices over and over again. According to a saying attributed to Albert Einstein, insanity is defined as doing the same thing over and over while expecting a different result each time.

If you are, in any way, unhappy with how your life is turning out or the kind of results that you're getting, you need to make better choices. For this to happen, you need to increase your ability to think analytically.

When you boost your analytical skills, you're able to make better decisions. This is crucial because it doesn't matter what kind of project you set yourself up with.

Maybe you're looking to build a business empire out of nothing. Maybe you have just graduated from school and are thinking of building a successful career. Maybe you are in a relationship and you'd like to take it to the next level.

Anything that involves any kind of planning, action, and/or interaction with other people requires analytical thinking for us to get the best results.

Regardless of whether you're thinking about business, your career, or your relationships, if you break down the kind of skills you need to do well in those fields, it all goes back to your analytical thinking skills.

Business management skills and decision-making skills are broken down into analytical skills. The same goes with interpersonal relationships and learning how to properly read each other. That leads back to analytical skills as well.

In fact, the kinds of decisions that we make on an interpersonal level are actually more difficult because there's this added element of emotion involved. In a business setting, it's easy to be more objective. It's easy to say It's only business.

But once we're talking about your loved ones, your self-esteem, your self-worth, that's when things get a little bit murky because of the added element of emotions. Still, if you were to break it down finely enough, it all goes back to your analytical thinking skills.

THE CORE OF ANALYTICAL Thinking Skills

Analytical thinking skills are essentially just thinking. We all think on a moment by moment basis. The only difference is analytical thinking is more disciplined, systematic, and methodical. Whether you are analyzing poems, writing articles, essays, and novels, or coming up with new mathematical formulas or trying to figure out biological systems, you have to think in an analytical way.

Analytical thinking doesn't just involve how you make sense of things. It also impacts how you relate a concept that you are learning or working with in the present with things that you already know. It also impacts how you express what you know.

With this as a background, I hope it's abundantly clear to you just how important analytical thinking is. It may well be the key that you need to solve a lot of the problems that you are currently experiencing. Whatever it is that you're unhappy or you're struggling with, a renewed focus on analytical thinking might be your way out.

In this book, I'm going to step you through the definition of analytical thinking in different contexts as well as different techniques you can use to boost your ability to think in an analytical way.

Chapter 1: What Is Analytical Thinking?

Now that you have a basic understanding of just how crucial analytical thinking is, it's tempting to just focus on how to pick up the skill or how to sharpen whatever analytical thinking skills you already possess.

We can't rush building up a skill we can't fully define. If you want to solve a problem, you must first define the problem enough so you are more likely to get to where you want to go. The same applies to analytical thinking.

This is one of those concepts that pretty much varies from person to person. We have a way of reading our personal meaning into certain words like love, hope, justice, and analytical thinking.

Let's start with the basics. The more basic we can get, the more objective our definition. Ultimately, you're going to have to supply most of the meaning yourself because you're going to have to use it in your set of circumstances.

But at its most fundamental and objective level, analytical skills refer to our ability to collect information, analyze it properly, apply it to problems that we face, and thereby solve those problems through rational decision making.

As you can tell, there are many different parts to analytical thinking. It's not just a question of being able to pick out the right information. You also have to use that info. Now, please understand that as important as this definition is on a practical level, it's missing one key ingredient.

At this stage, analytical skills refer to mental skills. These involve the raw workings of your mind. With the proper training, you would be able to look at things a certain way, pick the right facts, apply them to certain principles or certain logic, and come up with a set of options.

I'm happy to report that with enough training, most people will be able to get to this point. But what piece is missing? That's right. You have to have the will to make a decision.

Believe it or not, a lot of people have analytical thinking skills at some level or other. The problem is
