Thanksgiving

In our hectic lives, is it not a good idea to have a day on which to be thankful for all the blessings you have and to wish for others to have their own good things?

No one is harmed when you are thankful for the new child or grandchild or for friends or the shelter above your head or for a year of life - or for the memories of those who may have left us - leaving us with those rememberances of smiles, words of wisdom and love.

Not only is no one harmed, but your own life is enriched by being thankful for such things.

In short, have a most Happy Thanksgiving!

Thanksgiving

Have a Happy Thanksgiving!

While our kids are spread from coast to coast and in between, we have one of ours and his family on their way down to share dinner with us. My daughter-in-law's brother and his wife will join us, too.

No one deployed.

All adults and grandchildren healthy.

We have so very much for which to be thankful.

Giving Thanks

My many blessings include my wife of almost 50 years. 4 great children and their loved ones, 3 grandchildren, and the family, mentors, and friends who have helped me along the way. And the people I have had the pleasure to work with over the years, from the sailors who taught me so much to the Red Cross volunteers of today.

Thanks to and for them all.

As Dennis Prager notes here, "If You're Not Grateful You're Not Happy"

So be grateful for what you have, for the chance to grow, improve, and love.

It's a much better way to live.

Be happy in your Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving!

No Navy menus, no pictures of turkey and fixings being served in the field.

No, this year I'm thankful for the gift of laughter, which is very necessary in these times.

So, without further folderol, here's Bugs and my friend Elmer:

And, of course,

Happy Thanksgiving!

It is good to take pause in our lives and count our blessings and give thanks for them.

The Doxology does just that. Enjoy your day.

Thanksgiving

At the table today, will it be a toast or prayer that kicks off the meal? Or both in one?
Tonight . . . we are thankful for and toast to . . . life.

For absent friends and family. For those here.

For our many blessings.

For shelter, for the food we eat, for the laughter of children, for courage, for God's grace.

For freedom, for  love, for kindness. For forgiveness. For joy.

For hope.

We give thanks.
Happy Thanksgiving!

Thanksgiving

If our menu is not as elaborate as that of USS Arizona in 1917, we are no less grateful for the blessings of the past year.

From the Naval History and Heritage Command:

Praise God, from Whom all blessings flow;
Praise Him, all creatures here below;
Praise Him above, ye heavenly host;
Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.
Happy Thanksgiving!

Take the Day Off, It's Time for Giving Thanks

All of us have something to be thankful for, even it sometimes seems that we carry heavy burdens in hard times.

Count your blessings. If you are reading this, you are breathing, able to read and have access to the internet.

Praise God from Whom all blessings flow
Praise Him all creatures here below
Praise Him above ye heavenly hosts
Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost
Amen

Praise Him above, ye heavenly host;
Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.
It is good once a year to stop and take inventory of the life you have lead and thank whatever Higher Power you acknowledge for the good, the bad (that which doesn't kill us makes us stronger) and for another year of life with friends, loved ones and memories.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Holiday Routine: Thanksgiving

Except for the cooks and the watch standers, today is holiday routine. Memories of Thanksgivings past and a gathering of such members of the clan who can work their way to Raleigh.

We have a menu, Navy-style, though we don't quite serve up the quantities:

For those deployed and serving far from home, those at sea and on the shore, from my family to you, "Thanks!"

You are in our thoughts and prayers.
