Glen Anderson – A Pillar in Olympia’s Chapter of the Green Party Glen Anderson’s death marks the end of an era. He had been a loyal Green Party member for 30 years. He used to give talks for the state party (on Peak Oil for instance) and he led a 12-part series on Re-examining Capitalism for our local party in 2010 (after the 2008 meltdown). James Lane 1965 – 2024

Presente James Lane Husband of Dani Liebling, Both active in the Green Party. Judith and I often stayed with James, Dani and Xavi in their Park Slope basement apartment over the years before we moved to Bed-Stuy. He was also a musician in a heavy metal band, a video producer, and an internet whiz. Campaigned for him out on Staten Island when he ran for Congress. Continue reading

Stoney Bird 1944 – 2024

Stoney Bird has devoted the last twenty years of his 78-year-old life (he turned 78 four days after he broke his neck) to being in service to planet earth, social activism, and dismantling the corporatocracy. He volunteered thousands and thousands of hours in community organizing, public transportation, and political campaigns for nature and human rights, and peace demonstrations. His current attention was focused on establishing public banking and ranked-choice voting. He gave away his car in 2002 and has ridden his bicycle, walked, and used public transportation since. He lived a modest and frugal lifestyle, rarely buying anything at all let alone new things. He was a kind and generous man who had been blessed with an incredibly strong will to survive and thrive.  Continue reading

Presente Alice Green 1940 – 2024

Green Party candidate for Lt. Governor in 1998 Green Party candidate for Mayor of Albany Presente Dr. Alice Green. Alice was a life long civil rights and prison reform activist. She was one of the leaders in the fight to end the death penalty in NYS. Green founded the Center for Law and Justice in 1985, where she remained as the Executive Director until her passing. She was also a long distance runner - in many ways. She was married to Charles Touhey, who long supported her advocacy efforts. Continue reading

Patricia Alessandrini 1939 - 2024

Patricia Alessandrini, an 85-year-old Teaneck activist who ran for office five times as a Green Party candidate between 2003 and 2013, died on July 11. A former nurse and teacher, Alessandrini organized protests for racial justice, opposition to the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, and solidarity for Palestine. She was the Green Party candidate for State Assembly in the 37th district in 2003, finishing fifth out of six candidates with 1,063 votes (1.5%) against incumbents Loretta Weinberg (D-Teaneck) and Gordon Johnson (D-Englewood). Tom Siracuse 1938 – 2024

Thomas E. Siracuse, a cherished educator and devoted advocate, passed away on Jully 6, 2024. Born in New York City and raised in New Haven and Milford, Connecticut, Thomas was a 1956 graduate of Milford High School. He served with distinction in the United States Navy and the Peace Corps in Costa Rica. He earned degrees from the University of Connecticut and Columbia University and was fluent in Spanish and Italian. Continue reading

Paul Gilman, 64, committed activist, Green Party member, adviser, friend Throughout his life, Paul Gilman was a tireless champion for a more sustainable and equitable world. A native of Jackson Heights, Queens, Paul was a graduate of Queens Community College and was a member of the taxi drivers’ union for more than 20 years.
