Telford's iron aqueduct 1 - Longdon on Tern, Shropshire
One of Telford's many works and a precursor of the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct SJ 2742. Here amongst Shropshire fields stands the Longdon on Tern Aqueduct. It was designed and built by Thomas Telford in 1795 - 6 as a replacement for a stone structure which was destroyed in floods in 1795. It was Grade I listed by English Heritage, now Historic England, on 30th March 1971. View from the eastern end. Time photo taken not available.
