Shaw Beck
A classic tree-filled ditch, the only reason anyone would paddle this bit of the stream would be in order to access the rather more interesting sections downstream leading into Marske Beck without carrying a boat for miles. With enough water for a trip, you'd be faced with a lot of evasive action and portages to avoid the low-hanging branches, probably with a serious lack of eddies. Just upstream of this point a small section of flood damage (the base of a fence washed away and hanging in the water) highlights the other hazards of small streams in the flood conditions necessary. Perhaps this is not a place to look at purely as a canoeist !
