SE4048 : Dry arch of Wetherby Bridge
taken 9 years ago, near to Wetherby, Leeds, England
Dry arch of Wetherby Bridge
It may have been dry in March, but the river had flooded over its banks only three months earlier, and no doubt rearranged the shingle banks in the process. This close look also shows the two phases of bridge building: the nearer section is the later (1826) and the further one is older (the arches possibly dating from the 13th century according to the list description, though the bridge was repaired and widened in the 18th century). Not only is it listed (grade 2, entry 1313468) but also a scheduled Ancient Monument (entry 1005798). See SE4047 : Boston Road bridge, Wetherby for a wider context of the whole bridge.
