Due to open in 2019, this large recycling and energy recovery centre is being built at Millerhill LinkExternal link , and adjacent to the Millerhill Waste Treatment Plant Link. It will receive up to 195000 t of household and commercial waste per annum from Edinburgh and Midlothian. Energy will be generated from waste by a CHP plant, sufficient to supply 30000 homes. The facility is being built by Hitachi Zosen Inova (HZI) on behalf of FCC Environment (UK), who signed a 25-year contract to operate the £142 million plant in October 2016.
