Sir John Betjeman called this "The Cathedral of the Trent Valley". The chancel arch is one of the oldest parts of the church. The sunlight from the eight clerestory windows can be seen shining in.

Featuring St Alban, St George and St Martin, with scenes from their lives below. In memory of Kenneth Rose, killed in action 1915, aged 25.

A brass to Dame Millicent Meryng, d. 1419, wife of Sir William Meryng. She first married Sir Nicholas Burden, and also Judge Markham, whome she bore a son John, the future lord chief Justice. The brass was probably originally on top of an... (more)

The font is probably from the late 17th C although the base is earlier. The organ is a chamber organ (surprisingly for such a large interior), and probably dates back to the 18th C.

The window dates from 1885 and is in memory of Judge Markham and his son. It shows shields of arms, three use old glass, and show the arms of Bewster or Brewster of Suffolk, Fitz-Hugh and Burdon impailing Bekeryng. The fourth shield... (more)

Glorious grade I listed parish church at East Markham

The Grade I listed church is medieval and was restored between 1883 and 1887 by John Oldrid Scott.

In East Markham churchyard. Mary Ann died on March 13th 1864 but the weathering of the stone makes it impossible to confirm her age.
