Plenty of soft peat moorland here and not much of note, except for the distant line of grouse butts.

Nothing but the posts remains, and these are in a poor state.

The tops of mine shafts often show well on moorland as they are surrounded, as here, by a grassed-over collar of mine spoil. The shaft seen here appears not to be open but is probably sealed in some rudimentary way - to walk on its base... (more)

This grouse was looking pretty pleased with himself. Two weeks after the 'glorious twelfth' and still strutting his stuff on the moorside. He just knew that the camera wasn't a twelve bore shotgun.

The new fence merely bends at this point. There was an earlier fenceline coming up from the left which has fallen into disrepair.

An unremarkable height above Swaledale, standing at a junction of fence lines - one of which has nearly rotted away.

Whilst it's great to see that trees can establish and survive on this moorland (there's at least one odd rowan not far away), it would be better to see more, and to see all of them being native hardwoods rather than exotic... (more)
