The roof is full of gaping holes - you would have to be desperate to contemplate sheltering here. Judging by the nearby grouse butts (similarly neglected) it was probably once a shooting hut. Castle Knott looms across the dale.

A small natural arch in the bed of the gill - it's possible to duck through with a little squirming (fatties might struggle, but then they wouldn't be up here would they?).

I would think this bridge is for the benefit of the sheep and the shepherd rather than walkers. There are no footpaths and only the unremittingly steep and arduous flanks of Middleton Fell on the far side SD6684 : Descending into Barbondale. Possibly a... (more)
