: Forest track on Hill of Summertown by Iain Macaulay Forest track on Hill of Summertown
Looking SSW from position
: Green Hill Plantation by Anne Burgess Green Hill Plantation
A gap in the forest plantation on Green Hill.
: Forest track on the Hill of Summertown by Peter Wood Forest track on the Hill of Summertown
Looking south-westward.
: Immature Pine Cone by Anne Burgess Immature Pine Cone
In a few days the cone will open and be covered with pollen, which will blow away to lie as a yellow scum on any puddles. I think from the colour of the needles that this must be a Lodgepole Pine (Pinus contorta).
: Snow-laden Branches by Anne Burgess Snow-laden Branches
These branches are in shade all day until well on in the afternoon, when the warmth of the sun is not enough to melt their burden of snow.
: Road with a View by Anne Burgess Road with a View
After passing between dense forests, the view towards Knock Hill opens out at this bend.
: Forest Track by Anne Burgess Forest Track
Yet another boring view of a gloomy track between dense stands of conifers.
: Chanterelles (Cantharellus cibarius) by Anne Burgess Chanterelles (Cantharellus cibarius)
Identified by one of my companions, these are one of the most palatable fungi, unless one has the identification wrong. But at least the species that can be confused with Chanterelles are just not very good rather than actually poisonous.... (more)

: Cross-leaved Heath (Erica tetralix) by Anne Burgess Cross-leaved Heath (Erica tetralix)
Often confused with Bell Heather (Erica cinerea). Normally the flowers are over by late August, but there were still a few on show.
