This is a very scenic route and popular with tourists. The islands just visible on the far horizon are Inishshark and Inishbofin. A passenger ferry operates between Cleggan and Inishbofin.

A drive westwards from Clifden takes you along the coastal road around this peninsula. It can be somewhat vertiginous for those of a nervous disposition, but the views are spectacular. To the west lie the islands of Talbot, Eesal and Inisturk.

The views are quite beautiful from this point.
