This fellow shadowed us for quite a while. Wheatears prefer stony ground, upland pasture and dry-stone walled country like Cavedale.

Multiple Paths
We were fortunate that the ground was very dry on this day, because it is apparent from the way the path anastomoses that people seek alternative paths when it is wet and slippery underfoot.

Limestone Way at the top of Cave Dale
The Limestone Way, at the top of Cave Dale above Castleton. The path ahead very soon descends steeply through rocky Cave Dale and past Peveril Castle on its way into Castleton village and the northern terminus of the Limestone Way.
