The new laws in Ontario make it legal to bet on a range of activities online. You can legally play poker online and bet on sports. Specifically, the new iGaming law makes it legal to back single-game wagers at online and mobile sportsbooks. Online lottery sales through OLG continue to be legal. 

For now, daily fantasy sports (DFS) is not covered by the new Ontario gaming law. Major operators such as FanDuel and DraftKings pulled out of Ontario at the beginning of April 2022 to concentrate on their sportsbooks.

About Ontario Lottery and Gaming Commission (OLG)

The Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) was set up in 1975 to organise and provide gaming entertainment to local residents. That included lotteries and charitable gaming but has grown to include land-based casinos and state-run online casino games. The OLG also operates its own online casino that is regulated by the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO).

iGaming Ontario: iGaming Ontario was set up in mid-2021 under the AGCO. It is responsible for setting up licensing agreements with prospective online gambling operators in Ontario.

Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO): The AGCO is responsible for overseeing Ontario’s 25 licensed land-based casinos.

Regulated Ontario Online Casinos: What to Look For
