It was more the setting and not the romance. In a nutshell: He killed her BFF, he killed her father's friend and she fell in lust with him. I found her pathetic and him cruel. The ending made me really mad. I need some time to cool off and to compose my review. Before I say smth harsh, I'd rather shut up now *lol*

It's one of the books I can't accept as any kind of romance, even not a dark one. There are morals and society rules I can't overlook.
To each his own... But I stick to my opinion.

Ich fand das Buch auch schlimm, aber die Generation, welche nichts von der Geschichte kennt, schaut nur auf so genannte Romanze. Traurig 😩

Tolle Analyse und Kritik! Ich hatte genau diesen inneren Konflikt: ich wollte an die Liebesgeschichte glauben, aber es gab so viel Dissonanz. Er war ein kaltblütiger Killer, hat ihre Freundin erschossen und so viele Menschen verraten. Ich konnte von diesen Tatsachen einfach nicht weg. (Diese Autorin hat überhaupt ganz komische Einstellungen in Bezug auf Liebe. Ihre ganze Daddy-Manie ist ekelhaft.) Für mich hat dieses Buch das Klischee vom sadistischen Deutschen nur verstärkt. Gerade das brauchen wir nicht noch mehr, wenn Hollywood das ja sowieso macht. 😳

Meiner Meinung nach sollte man das Thema in Ruhe lassen und aufhören die Deutschen zu bestrafen. Aber auch auf keinen Fall irgendwelche romantischen Geschichten aus den Zeiten zu basteln. Jedes Land hat eine dunkle Vergangenheit, jedes! Das Arschloch von Protagonist hätte auf keinen Fall das gute Ende bekommen dürfen. Ich habe nichts mehr von dieser Autorin gelesen, und werde nie wieder ihren Schwachsinn anfassen 😏

Oof I came across this book in a Facebook group. The premise sounded intriguing. I’m so glad I read your review before I bothered with what would undoubtedly be a disappointing and upsetting read.
