5 - "It's better than I thought it would be. Stars!
I think it’s safe to say that Someone Like You is probably one of the most anticipated reads of 2016 for a lot of people, and I think Lauren Layne made it worth the wait with the story she gave Lincoln Mathis.
This is one of those books, that as a reviewer I want to gush wholeheartedly about, but there isn’t a huge amount I can actually say about the plot and characters without giving a massive amount away, and I definitely think this is a book you need to go in without any pre-conceptions as to what is going to happen, because for me that was half the joy of finally getting Lincoln’s story.
"I think we’re going to get along just fine."
Lauren delivered up a slightly different story this time, in that it was very much character driven, that’s not to say that her books in the past haven’t been, but I just found everything with Lincoln and Daisy’s story to have an added depth and emotion to it. Sex comes a long way into the story, but it works well because of it as these two characters have an awful lot to work out between them and individually before they can take the path towards a fully fledged relationship.
You get the usual back-up with the rest of the Stilletto and Oxford characters, and as in all of the previous books, their addition brings great entertainment to the proceedings, but there were points where it just added to the whole dynamic of the story. Lincoln is not the character you have been lead to believe over the course of the previous books, and the more you see of the real guy that hides behind the charming facade, the more emotional certain aspects of the story make you as things move along.
It was odd that it was the person who’d known him for the least amount of time who could expose him...
Kindred spirits that inevitably pull together due to the connection and emotional understanding they have to what the other has been and is going through, both of them present a front for the world to see, and it seems that the only ones to have ever seen past the facade is the other. I loved this couple as friends, more than friends and eventually lovers.
"I want your hands on me, I want you gentle, rough, desperate, because I’m feeling all those things... I’ve been feeling them."
For me this is some of the best writing I have had the pleasure to enjoy from this author. I loved her work before Someone Like You, I am pretty sure I will continue to love it for many years to come.
"I don't know if I can let you go..."
Luckily we get more from the Oxford series in 2017, with I Knew You Were Trouble due for release in June, and I cannot wait!
ARC generously provided by the publisher, via Netgalley and it was my absolute pleasure to provide the above honest review.
