It’s funny and sweet with an adorable, possessive dragon, and the audiobook narration by Joel Leslie is great, but this love story just didn’t work as a novella. It really needed to be longer. The commitment and “I love you” came too abruptly after only 2 days, only one of which Zephyr was in his human form. And as Kristoff says, You can’t marry someone you just met that day! It also has an open-ending and it seems the author has abandoned the series....more

Suspenseful, action-packed, brutal, raw, romantic, and sweet with a beautiful HEA. The world-building and character development in this series is so impressive. I love both Lysander—the broken, abused dragon that had never known kindness or love—and Eroan, the battle-hardened assassin elf with a soft spot for his dragon.

His torture under captivity in the last book has left him emotionally and physically broken and vulnerable. He’s struggling with self-hatred and severe internalized homophobia. Zane is promiscuous and flirty on the surface, but harbors deep wounds of his own, and is immediately drawn to the dragon. The hurt/comfort, gentleness, and passion between these two was so enthralling. I loved every moment. This is a top-5 fantasy series for me. ...more

A true enemies to lovers story. Lysander and Eroan are forced to choose time and time again between their people, their purpose in a war-filled dystopia and their inexplicable and fierce love for one another. It feels doomed at every turn. They each suffer in every chapter and I was hooked on every moment. Seraph, the young, smart-mouthed and loyal girl, is a stand-out sidekick in this book. I love her and her determination to trust her gut and do what’s right. Again, the audiobook narration was so good and the ending left me breathless....more

And the author’s disclaimer at the beginning that she knows it barely has a plot but is unapologetic about it, makes me love it even more.
It was funny, and I loved the extreme jealousy and possessiveness and the fact that the two MCs were willing to kill and maim and burn the world down for each other. It was fun and quirky. The spice and dirty talk were SUPER hot. Perfect if you’re looking for a quick, fun, spicy fantasy romance that doesn’t take itself too seriously....more

It’s funny that so many series use the tagline “perfect for fans of ACOTAR” but this one is literally ACOTAR with 90% accuracy and nowhere does she use that marketing. Lol. I think this would actually garner even more readers if the author was just like “Hey, this is the story if Feyre was a royal princess instead of an illiterate ragamuffin. Everything else is the same. Enjoy!”
I enjoyed it. Yes. It’s fast-paced and intriguing with good sexual tension and fascinating morally grey characters.
But it ends unresolved with a cliffhanger and a love triangle. A good one. Just like ACOTAR! (I have to admit I always root for the dark, tortured antihero. And Blake reminds me of Loki and I’ll read Loki fanfic all day long.)
If you can handle all that or are looking for something to hit the spot like ACOTAR does, read this… but maybe wait for book 2?...more

Cute and funny fantasy office romance with a lovable heroine and dark and broody hero. Just enough romance to make your heart flutter, but this is a “clean” romance, so no spice. Just lots of mutual pining, flirting, and angst with subtle touches and a scorching kiss. I loved the dynamics with the side characters, especially Kingsley the magical frog and Evie’s office nemesis, Becky. I giggled a lot. Fun magic system with lots of plot twists and some suspense.
This would be a perfect first fantasy romance for a teenager....more

It wasn’t perfect but the story was gripping and exciting with lots of action and mystery. I loved Thea’s story and her strength and determination. The romance was the right kind of slow burn with just a hint of spice. I could definitely see the author drew a bit of inspiration from some other popular series—namely TOG and Harry Potter—but it still had a lot of originality. Also, the characters read younger than they were. Thea and all her friends are early- to mid-twenties but read like teenagers. But I was able to look past it.
And that ending was badass with a cliffy that will have me jumping to the next. This is definitely worth a shot....more

But it went a little too fast. It felt like the author skimmed over too much, trying to fit everything in a 300-pg book, and I wanted more. More world-building. More slow-burn. More emotion. The writing wasn’t stellar and the descriptions of body positions didn’t line up and had gaps. The writing was so good and the audio quality was great too! Highly recommend. Unlike anything I’ve read before. Super high angst, high spice, brutal, twisted and deranged, with dragons, elf assassins, battles, torture, sexual manipulation, and two emotionally, physically, and sexually abused MCs that you can’t help but cheer for as they painstakingly claw their way out misery to get their revenge. Some of the kills were so satisfying. The emotions and attraction between Lysander and Eroan are very subtle, and this first book was giving Game of Thrones vibes and read a bit more like an erotic fantasy thriller than a traditional romance, but the mutual pining and undercurrent of love is there. I’m familiar with Ariana Nash and I know she’ll bring the romance in the subsequent books. This book ends on a cliffhanger.
Yes, this book has a lot of dark themes but none of it feels gratuitous. It all works well within the story. This is not a sweet romance. It’s brutal and twisty and heart-wrenching. But so damn entertaining....more

Did I still love it? Yes. Because all of the minor faults are overshadowed by goddamn Vincent!
While I did really enjoy the love story between Oraya and Raihn, Vincent’s character arc and his tumultuous, emotional relationship with his daughter stole the whole goddamn show. It was perfection. And I won’t say anymore because I don’t want to give spoilers.
The spice was good and the world-building was clever. 4 stars for everything besides Vincent, who knocked it out of the park and makes this series absolutely worth reading.
