When a princess is kidnapped by an alpha , war rages between the humans and the wolves. But soon, forbidden attraction starts to grow. . .
Princess Aurora longs to escape the castle and the marriage that has been arranged for her.
But on the night before her wedding, at a dog fight where captured werewolves are made to fight for sport, she spares the life of a young wolf. It puts her on the radar of the powerful alpha who was going to kill him. And it changes everything.
That night, when the alpha escapes, he kidnaps her and takes her to the rugged lands north of the border — where the once warring werewolf clans are beginning to unite. He thinks that she is the key to winning the war against the humans.
Only, as they spend time around one another, forbidden attraction starts to grow. And as Aurora learns that not all wolves are bad, the alpha discovers that she is in danger from both his enemies, and those he once considered friends.
With monsters on both sides, a bloodthirsty war between humans and wolves raging, and undeniable passion growing between them — will their story end in love? Or tragedy?
I'm pissed about two things. First it is part of series that is nowhere mentioned or when the second book is coming out, the only positive thing is that it hfn and doesn't end in cliffhanger. Second I'm really not sure if I'm rooting for Callum-Aurora or Blake-Aurora. I mean Blake was somewhat unpredictable and I'm not really sure if he's just morally grey (which I'm fine with that) or just evil that every action he takes is purely for his interest. Don't drop me this unfair dilemma author, especially when I don't know when the second book is coming!
Cut it out with all the ACOTAR comparisons, and that is coming from someone who loves Sarah J M!
If you try any more than 3 romantasty series, you will notice there’s always a trend with war and someone being captured, or having to go to another land/realm.
This is not a copycat book!
The characters are so good, your emotions are pulled in every direction, and it’s surprising and unpredictable. (There’s no self-pity main to drag you down.)
This book gives you all of the feels.
When finding new fantasy books, it can be difficult because many adult authors take smut too far — but not in The Wolf King!
I really appreciate the authors pace and level of discovery, action, and romance, and the lovable and respectable characters!
OMG, this was an awesome read. The pacing was excellent. It’s beautifully written and I really felt for all MCs. Most of the time, princess are weak and helpless but not Aurora over here. She is smart, strong and brave without any combat skills and being awesome at everything. She is scared but always finds a way and trying her best. She felt like the best human real princesses and I admired her and genuinely liked her. Never once she irritated me which is very rare. Callum felt real and authentic too. He is big and strong but gentle and caring. He slowly helps Aurora to open up and start feeling, to be honest and real. He is not a book-boyfriend, he is a book-husband lol. The relationship development was so organic, so real and so satisfyingly sweet. I truly enjoyed it, masterpiece. Blake is quite intriguing and I do like him as well, but Callum wins after that scene at the tent in the forest *wink* I wish for a spin off about Blake finding his equal. Meanwhile, I will eagerly await for the book#2. Super highly recommend.
First, there is a love triangle.. or at least, allusions to one in this book. In fact, by the ending, it’s so heavily implied that it will have to be explored in the second book, because of the way the story has now woven into the love triangle.
I had my doubts on why the second male lead had such spotlights on his character; thinking hopefully he was just another important character (but not a love interest). This was then more or less dashed with the following words (around 70-75% through):
“I think I am falling for one of them. I shared something with [him] (2nd MMC) last night that is forbidden to me.”
Second. The characters, especially the female lead… can be a bit like cardboard cutouts. There’s not much “depth” to their personalities beyond what is introduced in the first 25% of the book. Whilst this makes it easy to grasp their roles and mannerisms… it also makes them very bland. And one dimensional.
Princess Aurora is literally the character fitting of her name. Princess.
She’s a major princess. A little ditsy, useless beyond her looks, vain, superficial and entitled. Add in a dash of “suppressed female” syndrome and “misunderstood doll" mannerisms, who has an underlying fierce sense of justice and good heart for the wounded…?
TA-DAH! Just like your stereotypical Princess.
The two male leads are just as bland. They are literally set-up to appeal to the reader’s taste for either a “light hero" or a “dark shadow daddy".
Both are rivals, and hate each other (go figure). But they’re both interested in the FMC ( because of course.), and approach her either as a "Prince Charming-esque" protector, or "Cruel But Endearing" anti-hero.
They’ve got all the clichés lined up. Some scenarios fitting each man — from the morally-good and perfect Callum trying to do right by Aurora, to the dark and scary Blake who will turn up at the right moment before trouble befalls Aurora, to protect her "cloak-&-dagger" style.
Third point, is that this book is clearly part of a series.
From the blurb and maybe the lack of details being released or mentioned about this book (at the time of this review), it comes across as some sort of standalone fantasy romance book, hailed from Scottish roots, with werewolves, some historical politics and your classic fairytale elements.
No... I doubt that—there is a cliffhanger (and a suspension of “upcoming events”), at the end of this book.
The overall vibes near the mid-way to second half also make it quite obvious that there are some “ACOTAR” similarities. Mainly being the two love interests (and the archetypes of their characters). Another is how Aurora is similarly placed in a “court” (or in this case, a castle?), where she does not belong; surrounded by strange shifters/wolves who detest her, and there’s an overarching reason to why she must stay under the protection of the male leads.
Clichés and repeated tropes aside... it feels like an unedited proof of a story that still needed a lot of refinement. Maybe as a lighthearted read, I didn’t mind it.
It got a little dull because of how predictable the characters were, as well as how unoriginal some scenes were. I was not titillated or swept up by the story. It’s nothing new, and it certainly doesn't make you feel like you're eager for what comes next.
But as a Fantasy-Romance with wolves and some basics of your typical fantasy read…? it’s alright! Enjoyable for something that you can approach without breaking your brain over.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I feel like I can’t ever unread this book now. it started off promising but ended like a btec acotar with so many cliches and not enough originality. also there is seriously nobody more irritating and self righteous than the main character. if she was a bug I’d squish her.
think season 1 of outlander except just the Scottish clans part and not the time travel…. & they’re werewolves.
I feel like I can’t even explain this book well or set up the story so I’m not even gonna try - just trust me. If you’re into werewolf romances or fantasy and are looking for something fast paced & exciting, this is it.
Human princess x Werewolves Human x Werewolf war Forced proximity Only one horse Bath scene Possessive & protective MMC Youre mine Hot guys - PLURAL
4☆ If Jamie/Stefan and Rhysand/Damon were Scottish frenemy alpha wolf shifters. LOL I don’t even care, give me more.
…Oh and make Claire/Elena a sheltered English/human princess willingly kidnapped by Scottish Highland wolves in a war against humanity. 🐺 ACOTAR but less epic, 🏴Outlander minus time travel, and 🥵 Rated M Vampire Diaries minus vampires and diaries and high school. Except there are mean girls. 🙃 So basically, yum. Don’t think about it too much, andwhereisbooktwoooo 😛
I didnt enjoy this book as much as I thought i would 😭😭 I had really high expectations about this but as I kept reading it just felt flat, i needed more action, needed something else in this book. Butttt i really liked how their love story was developed, it was fun and cute!
Was kinda fun at first, then we hit the middle mark and the plot line as well as the romance between Aurora and Callum was boring as hell. The most uninteresting couple. Callum was sweet and everything but there was just nothing there for me,,, chemistry was not chemistrying.
The chapter structure was also weird as hell it would end on one sentence then just pick up on the next but as a new chapter???? The book was basically one long chapter.
It’s funny because I saw the reviews saying Aurora was irritating and didn’t understand because although she was a snooze fest that doesn’t make one annoying. Then I hit the 70% mark and Aurora became annoying as hell like I now get it. Her decisions and thought processes were just so stupid. Her acting all big and bad with Blake was just… she didn’t have this energy with any of her other adversaries. It was genuinely confusing me why she was going so hard especially if she just took a moment to remember he has helped her in the past.
Blake was the most interesting character here and even then if he said something about playing his game one more time i was ready to jump off the cliff.
Okay I was NOT prepared for how this story hooked me: it was a little cheesy at the beginning with her being a virgin and the slow love burn but dang! The ending has me wanting more. Possible love triangle??
When I tell you that I am invested, that is an understatement! I discovered this one through Instagram reels and decided to randomly take the plunge, and I'm not regretting my decision.
This read like a Wattpad fanfiction or something, but not in a bad way. I literally breezed through this. One complaint I have is that no one warned me this is the start of a series, and now I'm dying with the way this ended, I want to know where this is going asap!
Also, why am I so intrigued by the morally gray Blake when Rory has a perfectly nice, softhearted, decent wolf in Callum? Something must be wrong with me.
I rented this book through Kindle Unlimited and I'm ultimately glad I did with my thoughts on this book being what they are.
This story follows Princess Aurora, who wants to escape the societal norms that plague her. When she is forced to watch a dog fight amongst werewolves put together by her betrothed and her father, she captures her chance to escape. What she doesn't realize is that she also captures the eyes of the alpha who was in the battle for his life in the dog pit.
As the two begin their daring escape that almost leads to a war between the wolves and the humans, a forbidden attraction begins to grow between the two of them. What leaves Aurora feeling uneasy about the situation is the fact that she hasn't met the Wolf King that was put into place to prevent any in-fighting between the wolf clans.
Aurora battles within herself as the attraction to her captor grows as she also begins to realize that the wolves aren't all bad. However, she comes to realize that she has to battle with the wolves who disagree that humans aren't all bad. As if that isn't bad enough, there's something large looming on the horizon that could mean either victory for her or tragedy. Which one will it be?
I found myself waiting through most of this book, especially to find out who the king of the wolves is, and found myself sorely disappointed. I feel that most of the waiting for something to happen could have been constructively used to build up the sense of foreboding that I felt was left to a back burner.
We also have the male love interest feeling like Tamlin from A Court of Thorns and Roses, especially from the second book of that series onward. He is very controlling and I don't like that. It's like our female lead is escaping from one monster to another, almost, even if the male lead is a lot nicer than Tamlin was about a lot of the issues.
I felt this book was lackluster and didn't deliver on a lot of the things promised to readers, which I find to be quite disappointing. I'm not sure I'll be looking at reading the sequel anytime soon, no matter when it comes out. I'm not sure I'll be interested enough in this book to re-read it before the second book comes out.
I will say, though, that I did like the ending quite a bit. It's enough of a cliffhanger that people will want to go through and get the sequel whenever it comes out. I just wish we had any sort of spoiler about when that'll be. I'm sure it'll be driving fans crazy for weeks and months to come. If I was more into this book, I'd be one of those rabid fans. Meh. 🫤
Would I recommend this book to people? Meh, I'm not sure. If you like werewolf books with a slow burn and some smut toward the end, I suppose it'll be up your alley. It's not a book I'd be reading again anytime soon, though. That's just me, however, so you can take my thoughts with a grain of salt.
God HELP ME and my love for morally grey male characters. Or morally black, like really really black. I’m pissed at myself for starting another unfinished series so yay me!
Dnf ~45% in and if I have to read the word „aye“ one more time it would still be too often. My god if it would have been a book and not my kindle I would have burnt it. Also: we know this guy is big and an alpha I don’t have to read it every 5 seconds. 2 stars only because I really like a hot werewolf, but this one was so cringe I wanted to cry.
4⭐️ It’s giving wattpad copycat fanfic and I’m only a little mad about it.
It’s funny that so many series use the tagline “perfect for fans of ACOTAR” but this one is literally ACOTAR with 90% accuracy and nowhere does she use that marketing. Lol. I think this would actually garner even more readers if the author was just like “Hey, this is the story if Feyre was a royal princess instead of an illiterate ragamuffin. Everything else is the same. Enjoy!”
I enjoyed it. Yes. It’s fast-paced and intriguing with good sexual tension and fascinating morally grey characters.
But it ends unresolved with a cliffhanger and a love triangle. A good one. Just like ACOTAR! (I have to admit I always root for the dark, tortured antihero. And Blake reminds me of Loki and I’ll read Loki fanfic all day long.)
If you can handle all that or are looking for something to hit the spot like ACOTAR does, read this… but maybe wait for book 2?
This was really enjoyable and I finished it in less than a day which is always a good sign. I started off thinking it wasn’t the best book I’ve ever read… but was enjoying it anyway. Then towards the end there were so many twists and turns, some predictable and some totally not! Yes, this is well worth a read and I’m looking forward to the next instalment. Five stars because any book that makes me stay in my pjs and not leave my bed all day on a Saturday, is a winner to me.
wolf shifters, clan politics and a wee bit of romance
Princess Aurora has been a pawn most of her life, meant to play the part of the demure, reserved perfect princess. Her father has betrothed her to a neighbouring kingdom, to a cruel man named Sebastian. On a trip to his kingdom, she witnesses the wolf shifter fights he forces and his deplorable treatment of his wolf prisoners. In an act of bravery, Aurora saves a young wolf shifter from an alpha during a fight. Unknowingly, she made herself known to the alpha Callum. When Callum escapes from the kingdom, he takes her with him back to the wolf kingdom - to meet the wolf king. In kind of an opposites attract, slow burn, the chemistry between Aurora and Callum grows. But as always, there are many forces at play trying to keep them apart. It was an alright read, a little predictable, some plot holes, there was just missing something that would of brought it to the next level.
*Enemies to lovers *War between species *Fantasy This book is amazing! When I first started to read, I didn’t connect myself with it, but slowly the story conquered me and I was truly in love with this book (and waiting anxiously for the next one). Callum and Aurora is the perfect duo, but Blake, in the mixture, is the perfect anti-villain that we all love (and I don’t know yet whether I liked the idea of Blake and Rory or not). The narrative is incredible. Really recommend it.
