What we've read so far in...2015
*Please only add books that you HAVE read in 2015*
For the books you've read in 2014, visit the 2014 list!
Just keep voting for books as you read them. Which book will we read the most this year? And for all you lucky people who read more than 100 books in a year, this should become your 100 favourite reads of 2015 list. Delete your least fave's as you go past 100.
FYI: This is the 6th year I've put this list together. Last year’s list generated almost 9,000 books with 2,000 plus voters. The top 5 reads for 2014 were #1 The Fault in Our Stars, #2 Divergent, #3 Allegiant, #4 Insurgent, and The Book Thief at #5. Hmmm do I sense a theme here? Cheers everyone!

Wow the list is hopping already! I'm about to take up space for our Top 10 of the year.
I hope everyone has a delightful year of reading.
January Top 10
*1/28/15 - There has been lots of changes so far this month. This is where we stand now.
*2/1/15 - Sorry guys, when the end of the month falls on a weekend it throws me a bit from getting us updated. However it looks like we have the same top 10 from a few days ago, just a different order.

March Top 10
*3/26/15 10:43 - I know it's not quite the end of the month but I had some time so I was checking in and decided to update. Looks like we have a new comer to the top 10 this month.
*4/1/15 10:11 - A bit of a last minute change for March's Top Ten.

*4/24/15 10:55 - I know it's 6 days early but I'm bored at work and happened to take a peek. Two new comers to the Top 10 this month. I wonder if they will make it though the actual end of the month.
*4/29/15 9:11 - Looks like we have a fight for the number 10 spot and If I Stay has edged out We Were Liars.

*5/20/15 15:21 - Early again, I know. Another new comer this month. I wonder if they will make it all the way through the 31st. (book #11 has 23 votes so who knows) Oh, I thought I'd add the number of votes this month so we could see how close, or in the case of The Girl on the Train how far apart the books are.
*5/26/15 10:23 - Just a little change.

Thanks Buggy, happy New Year! I'm excited to get started, and WOW it's only day one and we already have two pages?! You people are ambitious!!

I commented too, calling them out on the fact that they have marked the books they've voted for as read in previous years and not in 2015.

Yay Buggy! Glad that your list is back too - now to find time to read in this busy year ahead of mine!

We seem to have more spammed books again. 5 people added a book (including the author) as their #1 read book this year, so of course it's #1. I'd mention the title to publicly shame him, but I'm not giving him the advertisement. I'm a librarian, but I've never seen any way to edit this stuff. I'm not sure if there's anything I can do here.
Kat - report it to support@goodreads.com. Oftentimes these authors spam themselves on multiple lists. I've reported several and they have been removed from lists.
Also if I see this type of behavior, the book moves to my not interested shelf. A lot of people have similar shelves and do the same thing.

I am the author of the book in question. I would like to point out that I am NOT a spammer. I am an artist who wrote his first book and self published it. I asked my friends and family to help market and boost it in order to get the book out there. Some of them did this by adding and boosting it on lists across Goodreads. I will point out... that several of the reviews are from people I do not know. Goodreads is supposed to be a place where you can get noticed. If you do not wish to read the book, thats fine. Writing is not my focus, painting is. I am not looking to make a bunch of money here. I do ask however that you dont jump to conclusions just because you see a book jump up a list. Thank you.

I am the author and would like to point out that the boosting came from family and friends who DID read the book within the past few weeks. I am an artist who JUST wrote and self published his first book. I am not a spammer and this is the only book I have written. Please do not judge me without knowing me.

James:
Fair enough, but for one, "Julia" marked it read in December 2014. And it's the only book ANY of them voted for, on multiple lists. None of them have any friends. They look like complete spammer accounts and that's not why we have this list.
When we see a book show up from six different people on a ton of different lists within the first week of the year, that normally signifies spamming.

Fair enough. Julia is a family member who was the first one to read the book and help give early feedback. It was published in December but like i said, I am just a struggling artist who tried my hand at writing a book.
After asking some of my friends.. it seems some of them signed up on Goodreads simply to review or rate it after I sent them links to the book on amazon and goodreads. Who they shared it with or whether they will continue to use their accounts on Goodreads is not something I can speak to.
Sorry if you feel as if it was spammed, but I again ask you to not judge before reading something or knowing its background.

James, I understand that you are new to GR and that you are enthusiastic about selling your book. Flooding listopia lists with your book will only cause people to avoid your book and can result in people reporting you for spamming lists. I believe that there is an authors guide somewhere on the site that gives you some tips for how to use the site effectively. For example, one very successful self published author approached groups in her genre, arranged a Q & A about her book, some giveaways, and because of her approach (and her excellent book), she did quite well through word of mouth. You see, if we like a book, we tell ALL of our friends.
James, it really looks suspicious to us if we see a book with 16 ratings appear on 32 lists. That's spam.
I also believe that if someone is your relative and they are reviewing your book, they need to disclose in the review that they are related to you.

I appreciate the feedback. I am not an author by trade. I am a painter who sells locally and on Etsy. Still learning this side of things. Perhaps my friends were a bit over enthusiastic. As i said, I simply sent links and posted on social media and they took it and ran. I am still learning how Goodreads works myself.
All I ever wanted was feedback on the book itself, and feedback for me as a new author.
Thanks for your information.

From one writer to another (you may see yourself as a painter more, but you're a writer too) - a good way to get feedback is to offer your book as a Good Reads giveaway. In that way, you get feedback and thus also word-of-mouth/ word-of-web advertising from the people that win your book to read, and, people are encouraged to add your book as a 'want to read' from the giveaway web page itself. I hope this helps :)
