What a lovely question! I also looove zombie stories. I think the BIGGEST inspiration for writing this book came from how "zombies" can be used as a metaphor. We see them as the undead, but what if there was more to that? There's a quote from the MC's blog that says,

"Are zombies beautiful? Inherently, no, but maybe their human side is still searching for what their dead side craves: connection—the kind that can only be reached through the heart and brain."(less)

The Undead Truth of Us by Britney S. Lewis
Hello! The romance in this novel is minor. There is no spice, and there are only a few steamy scenes between the main character and the romantic interest.
