Known for her sardonic wit and her hysterically skewed outlook on life, Jenny Lawson has made millions of people question their own sanity, as they found themselves admitting that they, too, often wondered why Jesus wasn't classified as a zombie, or laughed to the point of bladder failure when she accidentally forgot that she mailed herself a cobra. Her blog (www.thebloggess.com) is award-winning and extremely popular. ...more

Just don’t be a dick

Every once in awhile I share the weekly letter I send out from my drawing substack because not everyone understands how to sign up (hi mom!) and so they can read it here. This is one of those days: Dear friend. This week I was feeling a combination of helpless and full of rage andContinue reading "Just don’t be a dick" Read more of this blog post »

Goodreads keeps suggesting I read this book, which is weird because I wrote it. But I'm adding it to my read list on this very last day of 2024 because I didn't hit my reading goal and anything helps at this point. ...more

Dreamy literary horror. My only complaint was that it was one of those books that doesn't use quotation marks. I get that it's a literary choice but I always find books without quotation marks hard to read. ...more

Quotes by Jenny Lawson  (?)
Quotes are added by the Goodreads community and are not verified by Goodreads. (Learn more)

“When you come out of the grips of a depression there is an incredible relief, but not one you feel allowed to celebrate. Instead, the feeling of victory is replaced with anxiety that it will happen again, and with shame and vulnerability when you see how your illness affected your family, your work, everything left untouched while you struggled to survive. We come back to life thinner, paler, weaker … but as survivors. Survivors who don’t get pats on the back from coworkers who congratulate them on making it. Survivors who wake to more work than before because their friends and family are exhausted from helping them fight a battle they may not even understand. I hope to one day see a sea of people all wearing silver ribbons as a sign that they understand the secret battle, and as a celebration of the victories made each day as we individually pull ourselves up out of our foxholes to see our scars heal, and to remember what the sun looks like.”
Jenny Lawson, Furiously Happy: A Funny Book About Horrible Things

“Like my grandmother always said, “Your opinions are valid and important. Unless it’s some stupid bullshit you’re being shitty about, in which case you can just go fuck yourself.”
Jenny Lawson, Furiously Happy: A Funny Book About Horrible Things

“Because you are defined not by life's imperfect moments, but by your reaction to them. And because there is joy in embracing - rather than running from - the utter absurdity of life.”
Jenny Lawson, Let's Pretend This Never Happened: A Mostly True Memoir

Aimee Hey pumpkin -

Not only did I pre-order Furiously Happy (like, as soon as you made the announcement of when it was coming out) but I pre-ordered it from my local bookstore. Just thought you'd enjoy that fact.

Met you in Boston on your last book tour - my brother and I came down from Maine and brought you a whoopie pie. We were thrilled to meet you and I'm counting the days until F.H. is in my hands. Already know I'll love it.
