“I yearn for empty thoughts and silence in my head. For someone to sit down beside me, to hold my hand and take away the cold sting of loneliness that creeps under my skin like an English winter.”
Malia Zaidi, A Poisonous Journey

“If one can be find use for oneself, be helpful even, one can probably pull through the day. And the next, and the next, until one day the grief is only a dull pain one has grown used to and barely notices anymore. It”
Malia Zaidi, A Poisonous Journey

“To most people this undoubtedly sounds a terribly dull way to pass the time, watching someone read. I see in it a strange intimacy, witnessing another person as they are taking a journey, mental if you will, but a journey nonetheless. For a book, a good book, is nothing less than a passport to some unknown place, and a truly great book can be a mirror of our being, reflecting hidden parts to which even we can sometimes be blind. Charles Bukowski, Barfly

“For those who believe in God, most of the big questions are answered. But for those of us who can't readily accept the God formula, the big answers don't remain stone-written. We adjust to new conditions and discoveries. We are pliable. Love need not be a command nor faith a dictum. I am my own god. We are here to unlearn the teachings of the church, state, and our educational system. We are here to drink beer. We are here to kill war. We are here to laugh at the odds and live our lives so well that Death will tremble to take us.”

Thank you, Dolors! I love "Jane Eyre" definitely one of my favorites also, but I agree, it's so difficult to decide on just one:-)
I was in Barcelona last summer, such a lively city!

Dolors Thanks for your lovely response and for sending a friend request Malia. Hah, I am actually unable to provide a single title, particularly since I joined this page (I've read countless master pieces since then), but I will always hold "Jane Eyre" dear to me. John Banville, Proust, Lessing and Shakespeare have never disappointed so far, so my answer shifts between the literary currents of these authors...
I can't wait to discuss books with you, greetings from Barcelona till then! ;P

Malia I paint a lot, but mostly for myself, same with my writing. I've only let very few people read what I write:)Do you have a favourite author?

message 2: by Marie

Marie Hi Mali, thanks for the friend request!

You like painting? I do love art, but much like my writing, I just don't dare try often. My art teacher in high school only had a short segment of acrylic painting because she didn't like to paint, so I'm mostly self-taught.

Juliana Philippa Hey Malia! Welcome to GR :-)
